Hi, I was diagnosed with early stage ovarian cancer two months ago. I had a total hysterectomy, which imbalanced my hormones. A doctor told me that HRT will be needed to improve my condition. What do you think about HRT after total hysterectomy-yes or no?

HRT is often used after hysterectomy for treating of imbalanced hormones. Since you removed your ovaries, both estrogen and testosterone levels decreased. Testosterone production usually falls 50%, which is very much, and HRT is used to replace it. Testosterone will help you remain energy level, libido and mood changes. Some doctors recommend only estrogen, but the others recommend both estrogen and testosterone. It all depends on type of hysterectomy and other things that characterize each patient. HRT is most often given in tablet form, and sometimes it is used until the age of fifty. It is best to listen to your doctor, and except prescribed therapy.

This is wrong as HRT replacements don't include testosterone. Further info should be checked out on proper medical websites that can give accurate info

Hi, you most certainly can have both oestrogen and testosterone HRT together, although testosterone is only available as an implant. I have been having both oestradiol and testosterone implants for 10 years now and feel great. i am also a senior nurse with experience in gynae and have done my research on the benefits v risks. It is mostly very safe and effective but there are some contraindications which should be discussed with your gynaecologist.
