I was 28 years old and had miscarriage( my second child). The surgery was suppose to be just my uterus but later that night they took ovaries in emergency and i had a blood tranfusion. Shortly after that i was diagnosed with bipolar, i was slleeping too much, no sex drive, than too much energy. Shortly after that my personailty when out of whack totally opposite of me. As a result i left my husband and had custudy issues about my daughter. Can a hysterectomy cause depression or bipolar?

Hi jupiter,
I think that hysterectomy is a nasty procedure. It can cause depression, especially if the ovaries are removed too. I read that depression occurs if the cervix gets removed. When there are no ovaries, they cannot produce estrogen and other sexual hormones. Sudden deficiency of estrogen does lead to depression and a variety of other disorders like lack of sex drive, dry vagina, moodiness, etc
Have you been on some sort of HRT?
My mother suffered a major depression a year following the surgery and hasn't been her old-self ever since. Of course, there were other problems happening at the time like work problems and a loss of a out cousin but from what I have been reading, many women go through disastrous effects following hysterectomy.
