I had a TT 5 years ago and despite decreasing intake between 1000 to 1500 calories a day have put on 10 kg. Dr always tells me levels are normal. I completely agree that it's extremely frustrating. I have to keep trying though because I have had both hips replaced and need to keep weight low as I can because of osteoarthritis. Got frustrated with app as it kept telling me I wasn't eating enough and would love to know what to do to start getting lighter.

There must be something to help and am determined not to give up! Hang in there ... don't give up cos at least you know you're trying to help yourself.

This board and other I have looked at have me terrified! Glad you had a good experience. I have Hashimoto's and multinodular goiter. My thyroid levels are normal it was not until the did further testing that they found my TPO was high. I have had 2 scans of the goiter within a 6 month period and it has grown some. My family Dr sent me to a surgeon for what I thought was to discuss a fine needle procedure. Or to discuss another scam in a few months. We'll he tells me I need to have my thyroid removed completely.??? So I'm scared to death, I have felt bad for so many years. After they started me on the low does levothyroxine I actually started to feel better. It has leveled off now and I feel sluggish but not as bad as before. But I'm worried about total removal. I have lost right at 22lbs since starting thyroid meds. I'm afraid after surgery I will gain. Anyone else have hashimotos and removal? Results after surgery?

If that TSH figure is correct you need to see your doctor. It should be very low - in my case less than 0.8

I had my thyroid removed 7/13, gained about 7 lbs, but can't get it off. No matter what I do. I switched to Armour thyroid thinking that maybe it would help because it's closer to what your real thyroid does. I feel great, but still can't lose any weight. No matter what I do. I have muscle, cuz I train regularly, but really need this fat off, (that's where the extra weight is)...I'm about ready to chop off an arm. And I cry too.

I had a total thyroidectomy due to Hyperthyroidism/Graves Disease in mid Oct 2016 - I have my 6 week post op appointment with my Endo today actually but have been exercising (and i mean EXERCISING..I have been running about 5 miles 3x's a week and walking up to 5 miles the off run days and having only 1 rest day) and have managed to only gain about 8lbs post op) ... to me, that is good considering I was HYPER prior and lost a lot of weight that I wasn't meant to lose to begin with. It's all about balance. You can't not work out..even if you're dead tired, you HAVE TO. Yes med dosage is everything but restrict carbs and sugar as much as possible (allow yourself a cheat day or two a week, won't kill you!) and just be as active as possible. If you used to work out hard before, up it a notch...What i'm finding is activity you were at, at your healthiest should be upped a bit post op once you get the green light to work out. It just helps your mental and even tho you might not see the lbs decrease, a lot of it is MED WEIGHT ... you're carrying it because of meds not because you're losing control. Control what you can, be positive, and just live your life! This disease sucks but it's controllable if you really care and a realistic. you MUST WORK OUT!!!!!! A lot.

Same problem here! Had thyroidectomy for cancer 11 yrs ago, have gained 90lbs, and even with diet and exercise can't lose a lb. Very frustrating and disappointing! When I tell Drs they say my T4 levels and thyroxin are fine. At this rate I'm going to need Gastric bypass.

Like many above I am experiencing major problems with weight gain after a half thyroid removal. I eat healthy, try and include lots of color and anti-oxidant foods and I am as active as I can be considering my obesity (pains me to say the word) Sometimes the effort to try and be "normal" again just gets overwhelming. I also get tired frequently, have body ache problems and I don't even understand the word "libido" any more. Doc says I am "fine" with my thyroid levels considering my age (mid sixty) I don't feel or look fine.

Thank you for posting! I am having a total thyroidectomy at the end of the month due to suspected malignant nodules and this discussion board is totally freaking me out about gaining weight post surgery to where I was considering not having the surgery.

I am in the same situation. 4yrs since thyroid removed. Labs indicate too much medication, Doc continue to lower dose. Gained weight, feel terrible. No one listens to the patient. Only the black & white numbers.

I had mine totally removed over 2 years ago but havenot gained weight (1.85cm 75kg) ever since. Yes it is a daily struggle, some good and some bad.. And yes it is extremely easy to gain 5 pounds over a weekend whereas losing a pound is very hard.. But be positive and try to adopt to your new body.. In my opinion weight gain is somewhat managable but other side effects like chest pain sweating sleeping etc are the real challenges.. Be postive and enjoy yoir new lofe

I had my partial thyroidectomy in my mid teens and the tiredness was awful as was the weight gain. I tried dieting, exercising 2 hours cardio per day 5 days a week with no results for years. I now need a total thyroidectomy after my last half thyroid has become afflicted with the same cysts all those years ago. Horrible mood swings, tiredness down to the bone and weight gain despite my diet even including fasts. I have lost the will to live before my surgery has even begun.
