For almost a year my brother has had what his doctor had called non-specific ulceration of the throat and tongue. He prescribed him antibiotics, two courses did not help and than he had another course of antibiotics and liquid antifungal medicine, which also do not seem to be having any effect. He still has a burning pain at the back of his throat, and produces a lot of saliva. The condition is getting him down and I am so worried about him. What is wrong with him?

First thing that I can think of is oral Candida which can cause those symptoms, but there are others like varicella, cozsackie, HIV…etc. He should ask for second opinion and do upper endoscopy to determine how far ulceration goes down in the throat. Oral liquids are often not enough. He might need some pills.
