I know several people that have had colonoscopy done and it hasn't bothered them to lay with the gowns totally open!
Operations have been performed for many years not in this manor with only a gown to wear going to the OR so why so much fuss about It now, it's not as though your fully exposed during surgery because your not you have sheets over you with just the area being worked on exposed.

WOW! I think you have a problem. Nothing they have ever done to me has bothered me. The time the teeny bopper came in to give a full body shave before bypass surgery was just plain funny. I was laying there naked as she worked her way down from my neck. When she got below my waist and noticed I was completely exposed she exclaimed "we must have a little modesty here" as she placed a towel over my genitals. Then she promptly folded it aside to shave under it. I nearly broke out laughing. If they're going to work on your body they do need to be able to get to it. They are much more considerate than the army hospitals I was in. They lined us all up naked to do their checks then sent us on to the next room for the next tests. To get to the next room we had to walk out into the main corridor where everyone entered the hospital, wives and children of soldiers, and up to what ever room number they told us. I worked with a career sergeant whose wife refused to take their kids to the army hospital because of that.
What bothers me now is the way the government has taken over with Obamacare and now Medicare has stopped paying for routine tests my doctor prescribed. They denied payment for a blood test last year to check my cholesterol, glucose and liver functions etc. that they always paid for before Obama. I was on the hook for $230. They will never do that test again!! When they said Obamacare was set up to kill off us over 75s I didn't believe it. I do now!
I have no problem with my doctor, in fact I kind of like her tiny finger when she checks my prostate compared to my old male doctor. One time she brought in a female trainee to give me a complete clothes off physical including the finger wave under her supervision, maybe because she knew me well enough to feel I wouldn't mind. She did ask me if it was OK. Well, they do have to learn so I said OK.
I really think you have some kind of problem either with the medical community or your own nakedness.

I can understand some of the females that have commented here's and there concerns but it's the first time I have really come across a guy complaining about being naked around others.

Those days are gone..
There are people today that have no problem still showing off their bodies to either gender. All the power to them.
There are also people that don't want to be show offs and would prefer to be covered and have same gender care in a medical setting.
Maybe some don't care if the nurses checkout their junk then broadcast what they saw & heard all over the hospital but then again, some feel it is a complete invasion of privacy and a criminal offense.
Say a woman walks into the emergency room. A nurse will escort her back to an empty bay where she will be handed a gown to change into. The nurse will tell her she will be back to check on her in a short while. On her way out she makes sure her patient has all she needs, she then pulls all the curtains closed and/or shuts the door behind her.
All this is done for the woman without even thinking. It's 2nd nature according to hospital executives & staff.
Now, a man comes in.
He's escorted back. Handed a gown & told to strip & change into it. He hesitates for a moment thinking the nurse will give him the same respect she gave the female patient.
The nurse asks is there a problem. He replies aren't you gonna give me some privacy? She replies don't worry I've seen it all before and I have to get the area ready for the doctor.
When this scenario was brought before hospital executives & staff they said yes this happens all the time because they never thought to think that maybe men are modest too.
That's not the way they were brought up in the old days they said.
It's that stigma that men can't be modest is what keeps many away from healthcare today.
Hospitals need to change their thinking towards everyone as not just females have modesty issues & then act accordingly.
There is nothing wrong with leaving a persons underwear on if the surgery isn't in that area. That's what informed consent forms are for.

Are you shixxing me? I'm a male and I was not happy having a male nurse assist me while taking a shower before surgery. He was a very good nurse but still??? I don't want any males touching me while I'm awake anyway. They sent in a teeny bopper to give me a whole body shave and that was fine with me. Actually it had some very funny moments.

If the surgery site is nearby, then no.
The official reasons provided by nurses for robbing people of their underwear are unscientific nonsense that is the product of callousness and the desire to degrade the defenseless.
No one cares about getting a beta fine stain on their underwear. Most surgeries do NOT require a urinary catheter which is a huge source of infection. Metal in underwear (scalpel is electrified) is unusual and shouldn't be in play in any event. There is no good reason to routinely strip patients of all cotton underwear for most procedures not near that area.
It is probably time to start suing nurses and ambulatory surgery centers when this happens.

Good Morning All:
According to the US Department of Health & Human Services, the end goal of ALL healthcare providers is supposed to be to achieve the best possible outcome for all their patients.
The first step in achieving this goal, has to be treating each and every patient that walks through your doors with the same level of dignity and respect you would want yourself or your loved ones to receive if you or they were in their place.
Regardless of what people might think, there are people, both men and women that come from all different walks of life that for whatever their reasons may be, have modesty issues of one kind or another.
It’s not up to you, me, or the US healthcare system to judge these people.
When someone goes into the hospital for whatever reason, they are going into what they perceive to be a hostile environment.
They’re scared, they don’t know who they will be dealing with or what will happen to them. They are losing control of their life for a while and, their modesty issue(s) make the situation that much worse for them.
So if the goal of the healthcare provider really is to make sure all patient have the best possible positive outcome, and surgery has nothing to do with the genital/rectum area, the patient should be allowed to wear their underwear.
If the hospital is going to make a big deal about the issue and not allow the underwear to stay on, they should without question then provide the patient with same-gender care throughout their stay so the patient has a positive outcome.
These issues are out there because medical administrators don’t use their heads.
They know that there are men and women out there that prefer to keep their dignity and they want same gender care.
That being the case the institutions should be hiring an equal number of men and women for nursing and tech positions so that when someone comes in and wants same gender care they can accommodate the request without any problems. Most surgery is planned in advance. There is no reason not to be able to schedule an all female team for female related surgery and all male teams for male related surgery.
Its not rocket science.
If hospitals, clinics, and doctors offices want their revenue streams to keep flowing they need to start thinking about this issue and make some accommodations for these people.
If they don't they risk bad reviews from patients which in turn will cut into that precious revenue stream. If that happens, they have no one to blame but themselves.
