It isn't the doctors it is the new surgical techs who in our state only have 6 to 9 months training. Doctors don't come in here until time to start. I will demand to have local anesthesia next time and be awake to tell them who can and can''the be in room.

Good morning Guest.
What we have are all female administrative staff in hospitals and clinics protecting their all female staff.
"not bring in a male nurse as it was discrimination against the all female staff" BULL PUCKY.
I would get a legal opinion on that statement.
A male has the SAME RIGHTS as a female where intimate care is concerned.
Many a male nurse has started to sue hospitals over their discriminatory practices toward them.
It's time for hospital administrators to grow up.
Both men & women have had dignity issues with our healthcare industry.
Because the administrative staff in many places is all female, they listened somewhat to women and made adjustments to better protect their privacy and dignity.
Not so on the male side.
For the most part the industry is still tone deaf to male requests.
When men can find a way of getting past the fear of being seen as weak because they prefer same gender care and women stand with them in one voice, the industry will be forced to listen up and change they practices.
Men that ask for same gender care ARE NOT WEAK and THEY ARE NOT GAY.
They are simply using THEIR RIGHT TO CHOOSE.
To put it in terms the industry understands.
The industry needs CPR before it's too late.
ALL patients have the right to;
Choice, Privacy, Respect.
If you agree it's time for a change, it's time to SPEAK UP.
Regards,
NTT

With today's technology I will insist on wearing underwear for any surgery above or below the underwear. I have seen many videos and pictures that were covertly snapped during surgery and posted online. So, I'll make it just a little harder for them to take a pic without lifting my waistband. My son works as a Surgery Tech at a large hospital and he has told me some horror stories that some of the nurses have done to patients under general anesthesia.

Hello Poster Boy:
Since the medical community won't make it an absolute rule you bring a cell phone camera near a patient anywhere in a medical setting, "You Are Fired" it's up to the patient to try & protect themselves.
Time and time again stories of nurses taking unauthorized pictures and/or talking about a patient are popping up all over the news.
The only problem with the underwear is sure you'll go in with them on but, after they knock you out on the table & start prepping you, the first thing they'll do is remove the underwear.
Then after surgery is over, someone will put them back on you (after they have a good look of course), & you will never know it because they use drugs during surgery for anesthesia that effects your short term memory. It's their way of covering their bums. If you've never had surgery before you don't know this is what happens because nobody tells you all that they will be doing one you are under on the table.
Time has come for change & healthcare personnel must be held accountable for their actions no matter how funny they think it is we don't.
Patients deserve better than what the system is currently providing.

I am still wearing my bra and my underwear and I'm going to find a way of knowing if they take it off ! I am a palled at the stories and past experiences I've having outpatient surgery ! I'm insisting ! I know they would have a hard time taking my sports bra off so that would probably stay on it's the underwear I'm wondering about !

I'm absolutely insisting on wearing a sports bar and small underwear during my stab phlebectomy. Made it clear all female staff, no medical students and no medical personnel equipment people allowed in the surgery room

You said "Made it clear all female staff, no medical students and no medical personnel equipment people allowed in the surgery room".
You need to put your wishes in writing on the informed consent form and make sure the surgeon signs off on it with you and someone with you gets a copy. Because once they put you to sleep, you lose total control as to what is going on around you.
This way with the signed document, you have something with substance to refer to if your wishes weren't met.

If I'm in surgery I kinda like the idea of them being able to do whatever's necessary with whomever they need.

I have had several surgeries, the first on my ankle I was ordered to strip and put the gown on but I left my underwear on when the nurse came back she checked to see she personally removed them her self and scolded me as she did it, for all my procedures she would check as she said I could not be trusted, every time after I stood there naked for inspection before I was given the gown

Not sure why your so imbarrassed by your private area but you are dealing with professionals who could care less about what you look like and actually they don't even pay attention. Their attention is on your safety and care not what your packing. We could care less. Seen one, seen them all; only the patient would be shocked at seeing others not the medical team. Counseling or talking with your doctor could help ease your fears.

These same so-called professionals are the same people that take pictures of patients when they are at their most vulnerable.
No thank you.
