Hello Everyone,

I am a 23 year old male approxiamately around 155 pounds and 6 feet tall. About 2 and a half years ago I had a sudden onset of lower right abdominal pain. Ever since this point until now I have been struggling and living with chronic pain. The pain itself does not stay in one area and seems to move pretty much any where on the right side of my abdomen. I sometimes feel it in my upper abdomen near the end of my sternum, sometimes in my flank area, pretty much any where on the right side of the abdominal cavity The pain is hard to describe, it is unlike anything I had ever felt before until it started. I guess I could describe it as a dull, gnawing pain that seems to vary in intensity without much correlation to anything. I also feel this pain anywhere on the right side of my back, upper or lower. I know this is general but pretty much it never stays in the same area. The pain can pretty much present itself in either the adbomen or back, occasionally both at the same time. Also, I occasionally feel some referred pain down my right leg, especially the knee cap area. The pain is there I would say around 90% of the day, varying in intensity levels. I occasionally drink alcohol, not very often any more because this is one of the few things that affects the condition. The next day after drinking alcohol the pain will be much stronger. I also used to smoke marijuana but can't anymore because marijuana makes the pain awful and pretty much spreads the pain in spots I don't normally feel it.

As far as tests are concerned, I feel like I have had them all. Several extensive blood panels have all come back normal, 3 CT Scans normal, MRI normal, ultrasound of abdomen is normal, upper and lower gi series is normal, have had a CCK stimulation test testing gallbladder function which was normal, colonoscopy was normal, Kidney ultrasounds were normal. I had further kidney function tests done because my CT scan showed what they called a perinephric infilitration on the lower right pole ( pretty much a blurry spot) but futher testing has shown this to be normal as well.

I am looking for any insight I can get, it is hard to live in this chronic pain. No one should have to live like this because it is very uncomfortable and I feel I am way too young to be dealing with this type of problem. Thanks for reading,  I know this has been long.

Hi Matt, I have many of the same symptoms and all tests have come back clear as well. Was wondering how you are and if you ever got any resolution to this. Hope you are well.

Hi Jennifer and Matt,

I'm having exactly the same as you. Just had my gallbladder and appendix removed at the same time 4 weeks ago. I thought after removing the appendix, I will not feel pain on my right side. But, the pain got worst. Did test but came back clear. My doctor gave me some pain killer but I refused to take it. Now, I have to resort to pain management. My doctor advised to see an acupuncturist to help managed the pain. Once I can get the appointment, I will tell you if it works.

The pain you are having sounds like what I have been going through for the last few years as well. I am 45 yrs. old and I have had all kind of tests done as well and so far everything is normal. I do have degenerative disc disease and have dealt with my back pain for several years and this is so different. The best way I know how to describe the pain is after you have run for a long time and you have to stop because the pain in your side, but Dr,s all seem to look at me like they don't understand. This pain when it started was only after walking for a ways or standing too long, now it is whether I am sitting or laying, I dont have a normal sleep pattern anymore, sleep when I can. Dr thought this might be related to my back but I had an epidural last week and pain is as bad now as ever..I am at a loss and know I am so sick of hurting and would like to live a halfway normal life

Hey Matt I could have written your post. I am 25 and having this pain for well over a month. This isn't the first episode. What was coincidental was the worsening of pain day after drinking , and even more coincidental that the pain was severe after smoking marijuana like myself which I find odd . I'm wondering if you found out the issue or resolution I would appreciate a reply

Any resolution here with anyone? I am experiencing the same right side pain for the last 3 months. Pain is the only symptom. Bloodwork, ultrasound, ct scan, MRI, colonoscopy, upper endoscopy all came back normal. I'm going insane trying to figure out what's wrong with me. Any help much appreciated.

Same situation. Daily pain from the waist radiating everywhere: groin, leg, shoulder, etc. All tests are clear. I wonder if it's the herbal supplements I take.

I have had this pain for a year now. I have had ultrasound,CT & bloodwork. It starts under my right rib cage and moves just below and to the right. It also moves to just above my hip. I had gallstones for years and they dislodged themselves Snd could not be detected on CT or ultrasound do it’s not that. It’s a chronic pain now and seems to be getting worse. I do find some relief with the Dr Ho pain apparatus but it’s temporary.

I think I have the same thing. It felt like my body was sore and I thought I was going to have an appendicitis because of it. That was 3 years ago now n the pain comes n goes depending on how active I am.
