Starting almost a year ago, I had many similar symptoms as listed above. I thought I was a) dying or b) going nuts! My head and neck was always feeling pressure. My ears (or head, I couldn't tell the specific location sometimes) were constantly ringing - a problem I had never had before. I was often dizzy and had scary head "flashes" sometimes for what seemed like no reason.

But the worst symptom was this feeling of anxiety that would arise and people kept telling me I was "just" having panic attacks. But it felt like a physical problem. When I described the onset of head ringing, or tinnitus, my MD said "don't worry, you'll get used to it!" Sometimes I would have a racing heart, or just feel it beating really hard. This was scary too! Loud noises or loud rooms (like a restaurant) also caused feelings of anxiety (an extrovert, loud noise had NEVER bothered me before!) I was worried I might not be able to work and as a single parent, this was not possible! I had hearing tests, 3 EKGs, 2 emergency room visits, blood work, lab tests, you name it! I got a prescription for Atavan (anti-anxiety), which helped me through the roughest days back then. It's supposed to be very addictive, so I only took it VERY sparingly, on the worst days, and then only 5-10 mg.

But I have found some relief! I hesitate to say I'm "healed," but my symptoms are vastly reduced and I hardly ever have that "panicky" feeling anymore – even in loud rooms. I think my healing is being promoted by two things: taking Armour thyroid medication (about 60-75 mg daily) faithfully and seeing a very good chiropractor who specializes in upper neck and head problems (the C1 and C2 area). While taking Armour is a bit inconvenient (you have to take it 2 to 3 times a day), it is "natural" and certainly worth taking to reduce all the crazy symptoms! Before Synthroid was invented, that's what people always took for low thyroid. (by the way, if your thyroid tests come back "normal," do more research - normal is relative.) Armour has both the T3 and T4 element, unlike the modern "Synthroid" medications. Now I notice my head ringing starts up if I go too many hours - more than 6-7 - without taking Armour.

Also, the chiropracty helps. I was going 2-3 times a week when I was especially desperate (last Feb & March) and my "atlas" area was not "holding." It wasn't solving my problems completely, although it was definitely helping. But with the daily Armour AND chiropracty (about 1-2 times a month now) I am definitely much, much, MUCH better! I'd say my symptoms are about 95% relieved on any given day. I haven't had the feeling of pressure, panic, or "head buzzes" for at least 3 months! It feels like a miracle! I'm getting my life back. I use Atavan (5-10 mg.) only about once a month now or even less.

Although I think my problems are primarily physical, I also believe the stress of these symptoms can cause mental anxiety. I was opposed to taking anxiety or depression meds on a regular basis though, until I had exhausted all other possibilities. The last thing I wanted to do was to "cover up" the symptoms; I wanted to get to the root causes. I also cut out caffeine and use a CPAP (which I was already doing when these symptoms started.) And I definitely stay away from artificial sweeteners and MSG. And one more thing – I sang a lot! In the car, at home, in choir. I sang even when I didn’t feel like it – singing seemed to counter the anxiety symptoms. I’ve since read that singing is very good for you – it raises your endorphin levels! Since I’ve always been a singer, I guess I just instinctually turned to that.

I wanted to share my story so others suffering from this puzzling array of symptoms might be encouraged! Good luck on your search for healing and DON'T settle for "you'll get used to it!"

I know exactly how everyone here feels. I had been following this board for the last year since it was originally posted. I have had all the symptoms that you speak of. I have seen 15 doctors and had nearly 50 tests. Then they tested me for lyme disease. Every symptom I had was caused by lyme. I was never a camper or "woodsy" girl. I had no history of tick bite, but being in the public health field I knew it fit. If you have been following this board like me it does not hurt to talk to your doctor about lyme disease. I found it to be quite controversial but I fought for my health and finally got treatment 3 months in I am finally starting to get my life back.

OMG I cant believe iv come accross this site. My symptoms are just the same and im sitting here now feeling dizzy, slightly sick, with a heavy head and have only just been able to get out of bed. Iv been reading a lot of the posts. I did read on one to avoide the artificial sweetner aspertimine i think is called. Well i did buy diet coke at the weekend and for the last couple of days have had a couple of glasseses with my meal in the evenin (i dont usually dring diet). Yesteday when i woke up i couldnt even turn over in bed without getting dizzy. When i did get up i also felt sightly sick. During the day it was worse if i tried to bend over. I have a heavy head, my eyes feel tight, my neck aches and i feel like i have a hangover. This happened again this morning so i came on site to try and explain it. It did happen about a year ago, but i was sleeping in a bedroom with a boiler, so i thought it was that. Thats not the case now. However i have been extreamly stressed over the last few month, have not slept well or eaten properly. I dont feel like doing anything and its a struggle to work as i am a support worker. I feel like going to the doctors but going on previous posts thats seems pointless. Im not drinking the diet coke anymore and watching what i eat. I will however make an appointment with the optitions as my eyes do ache.

I want to thank everyone on this site who has posted there experience, i dont feel like im going mad anymore. Good luck to you all.

Im a 19 year old female. I suffer from a number of problems these include IBS and since march last yr i often pass out. I get this weird feeling like my heart racing and start to feel all weak, this happens quite often. The doctors cannot find anything and all my results come back fine. Recently i am starting to feel dizzy and cannot watch anything in fast movement like i cannot look out of the window of a car. I feel so tired all the time and sometimes really sick.
Ive been to the doctor but he just says it nothing to worry about and leaves it at that. Im sick of this feeling and dont know what to do. Does anyone know what it might be? or what i could do to feel better

I'm a 30 year old male and I too am living in this HELL! I am so sick and frustrated and I have no idea what to do. I've reached my breaking point.
Back in November of last year I got a cold that lasted for about 10 days. About a week after the cold was gone I got my sore throat back. My doctor put me on a bacterial antibiotic. About one week after I finished the antibiotic it hit me. I was sitting on my couch playing NCAA Football on my XBox when all of a sudden I felt as though I had been kicked in the head and completely spun around in circles several times. I have been feeling the same way since.
My symptoms are nausea (sometimes vomiting), dizziness (more lightheaded than dizzy), dull headaches, and a heavy head. I often feel as though my eyes cross and then take a second to refocus. The heavy head feeling is horrible. I just feel like my neck can't support my head at all. The muscles are tight at the base of my neck. Sometimes stretching seems to help. I also have tightness at the top of my jaw, at my temples. It started with the light headedness and nausea and the rest followed.
I went to my family doctor who immediately referred me to an ENT. His initial tests all turned up nothing. Next, the ENT sent me for a CAT scan. Everything looked normal. Then he did a VNG test and determined that I had a weakness in my left ear that was most likely causing all of this. He put me on Valtrex (viral antibiotic), Omeprazole (Nausea), Prochlorperazine (Nausea), and Lorazepam (Dizziness). He also scheduled me for a septoplasty (to fix my deviated septum, which he felt could be causing infections in my sinuses and ears). After one week I had finished the Valtrex but there were still no differences. The ENT suggested that I go back to my family doctor for blood work. I went for the blood work and everything turned out to be normal. My family doctor said it could be Meniere’s disease and that I could possibly end up feeling this way for a long time.
I have had anxiety issues for most of my life, so now I started to flip the hell out. I’ve been taking Wellbutrin for years and it just wasn’t cutting it anymore.
After another week with no improvement I called my ENT back and asked for more help. He put me on Prednisone (corticosteroid). If anything, this made me feel worse.
At this point I decided that I’d had enough. I got in my car and drove myself to Hershey Medical Center ER. I was there for about four hours and their final diagnosis was BPV (Benign Positional Vertigo). Basically, they said they aren’t sure what causes it. They don’t know how to prevent it. They don’t know how to treat it. They don’t know how long it will last. They don’t even know exactly what it is. (Possibly stones floating around in the inner ear). They just said it is a waiting game. It usually lasts days or weeks, sometimes months, but on rare occasions it lasts for years.
I think one of the worst parts of all of this is the feeling that no one cares that something is wrong, that I am making it up, or exaggerating. Everyone keeps blowing it off, like it’s no big deal. I been dealing with this for ten weeks now and it’s a HUGE deal. I can’t function at work, home, or anywhere for that matter.
I know how you all feel and I hope this works out for all of us. Good luck to you all.

Well, I have most of symptoms as mentioned here, for almost five years. I had head MRI and everything seemed good except something not important near my nose. I started to take Wellbutrin six weeks ago, from 150mg increased to 450mg now, and still don't feel much change. Probably my doctor will increase the dose again. I saw another doctor several days ago and had blood test. Again, everything is perfect. Then the diagnosis made me feel quite desperate - Chronic Fatigue Syndrome. The doctor told me that people still don't know what causes this syndrome and have no effective ways to cure it. What shall I do? Just get used to it? I'm 29 and haven't made money to retire.

Friends, I have read every post on this site and am sorry to know that so many of us are suffering long-term from this severe dizzy-nausea-fatigue ailment. I think those that are avoiding Aspartame are on the right track. But recently, I discovered that my symptoms are closely correlated with exposures to pesticides, herbicides and lawn chem products. I live in a city; not in an agricultural area. In fact my year long experience with these symptoms started with an exposure to toxic herbicides and pesticides at my Apt. building. If you look up the symptoms of 'pyrethroid pesticide poisoning' you will find what all of us have been describing. Pyrethroids are the MOST commonly used pesticides that are sprayed everyday in our neighborhoods, schools, workplaces etc. Virtually every restaurant, grocery store, and movie theater is SPRAYED once a month (if not more often.) I was able to get my property manager to switch over to organic pest control (you can find it on google). It works better than the hormone altering, TOXIC PESTICIDES. The organic stuff is made from plant oils and it works on neuro-transmitters that are unique to insects. Unfortunately, the toxic pesticides/herbicides that are currently in use were all designed for chemical WARFARE in WWII and they are ALL neurotoxic to mammals. Being that I will do almost anything to avoid the crippling nausea, dizziness and fatigue; I am now in a position of calling ahead to each restaurant, theater, and grocery store to inquire as to when toxic pesticides were last sprayed. This is tedious, but it is what I must do. I ask for the manager and I take the opportunity to inform them that they can and should switch to organic methods. During the last year I have discovered that it now takes me 7-8 days, in bed with severe symptoms, to recover from each exposure. As you all know, it is the worst feeling; like having chemotherapy; but for no reason. I have done tons of research on this and have found that some of us are genetically pre-disposed (or genetically injured ) causing us to being more sensitive to pesticides and other toxins. That is why others around us don't get sick from the same exposures. Another confusing aspect is that it can take 3-5 days after the exposure for us to become really sick. This is because the body will not react badly if it can clear the effects of the toxin in 48 hrs or so. Some of us do not clear the toxin readily and it then causes a cycle of debilitating illness. My first episode was my worst, lasting nearly 3 months. I am not giving medical advice here, but only relating my experience and the results of my research. I have joined my local group "Pesticide Watch". There are other good groups like "Beyond Pesticides" that are also working to bring us to the end of this era where we are poisoning the earth and ourselves on a daily basis. Warm Regards to all. I will watch for posts that may or may not confirm my experience.

I was inadvertently exposed to formaldehyde in my home for several months after installing some medium density fiber (MDF) shelving in my bedroom closet. Unbeknownst to me, this material commonly contains formaldehyde and other nasty chemicals. I'm not sure, but I believe my exposure to these odors made me chemically sensitive. Ever since that time I cannot wear clothes that come out of my laundry without getting physically nauseous. An allergist put me on low-dose steroids for a week to see what would happen, but it didn't help. I'm now thinking I have to try a new laundry detergent. Can someone recommend one? I've looked online and there are many choices. Also, would it make a difference what kind of washing machine I have? Mine is an older top load model with only cold-rinse available. I hate to spend $1,000 on a new high tech machine but I would, if I felt it would improve my health. This is a constant problem for me. After wearing my clothes for just an hour or so, I want to throw up. I run outside gasping for air. No one else can smell odors in my clothes. Prior to this I've never had any issues with chemicals or allergies. I'll be getting a sinus CAT scan this week but so far my doctor has no idea what's wrong with me. I'm guessing it's some form of MCS but really don't know, and I have yet to hear from anyone who has exactly the same symptoms. Any advice or suggestions
would be greatly appreciated.

wow.... I have felt the same :( I got the flu (full flu symptoms, fever etc.) back in mid-august, I had it for a few days. After that the dizziness never went away. At first I was nauseated and the "inner ear" virus seemed like a good fit. So I continued to work and just "live with it". Then I started getting really tired all the time, and the nausea went away after a month or so. Sitting up or anything for more then an hour (computer etc) and I have to lie down(as I get a piercing headache) I feel better lying down and the dizziness goes away.

I sleep 10-15 hours a day, and lie down 90% of my day. I have had a ton of blood work for mono etc, all normal. my white cell count is up however. i was sent for a Ct/Scan which did show an infarct in the left cerebral hemisphere, I was then sent for an MRI. I have an EEG and the results of the MRI this week.

My doctor has started monitoring my blood pressure. taken lying down it's good sitting it drops, and standing it drops even more. I have also gone to Pharma plus and done my own. I sit relax for 10 minutes then take it 3 times in a row. this is usually the results 119/80--110/76--92/76. (my mom did it 3 in a row after and hers was the same each time) If I try to grocery shop or anything when I get a headache, I sit take a blood test right away and it is 149/90?? So for this I have a cardiogram EKG etc scheduled on new years' eve.

As for the ctscan in 2001 I was taken to emergency with symptoms of Meningococcal septa-sema, or meningitis of the blood. I had a blood pressure of that of a dead person, the blood rash etc. The doctors had said that the infarct that showed up on the ctscan could of resulted from a mini-stroke I had in 2001(I was 21 at the time)
However my neurologist went through all my medical files and found that the bacteria was not grown in my blood or my spinal tap, so there was no certain diagnosis at that time either. She also told me at that time I suffered from endocarditis while I had my stay in icu in 2001. I have been sick at least twice a year since, but was told it was from allergies, and that my immune system just hadn't recovered since then.

So hear I am 29, I've been off work since September, and have no answers as to what is wrong. But I do feel comfort in reading this post and finding that others are also suffering with no answers. (misery loves company right?) I hope for all of us something is found soon. I will post any results I am given,
~Kristjanna

After months and months of every test possible, it turned out to be a rare type of migraine. Of all things a type of migraine. I was prescribed Metoclopramide and after three weeks of taking it, my symptoms are gone!!! I finally have my life back after 7 months!!! It took a neurologist specialist Dr. Janine Johnson, to figure this one out, but YAY!! Hope this may help others.

I'm a 21 year old male, for the past year or so I have had balance issues, dizziness, heavy head, fatigue and chest pain. With the knowledge that heart disease runs in my family I started to check my blood pressure regularly and noticed that my blood pressure is running particularly high. Lately the dizziness has turned into full on vertigo when I wake up in the mornings, I get the intense sensation my entire body is spinning and have extremely piercing, painful headaches for the first couple hours of consciousness then followed by fatigue, fogginess, heavy head, and earaches for the rest of the day. I am in fact a smoker, so I'm sure that does not help. I have scoliosis so my back and neck are constantly knotted up and give me problems, which makes sense that some people say pinched nerves could be a problem. My mother has meniere's and has had thyroid issues since I was a child, but I understand that thyroid issues don't typically affect men as much as women. I understand that thyroid issues typically cause these symptoms and I am not quite sure that meniere's can be genetic. Lately I have been having anxiety attacks where I literally begin to convince myself that my body's dying due to the sensations it is going through. Since the problems have worsened over the past couple of weeks I have laid off the caffeine(which is difficult considering I work in a starbucks), cut back on the smoking and began to drink more water and noticed a slight difference but the dizziness and fogginess remains. I also live in a pretty polluted city so I don't know if my body has been holding in toxins or what's going on. It's somewhat refreshing to see there are people that suffer from these same issues and can understand, I currently do not have health insurance so I cannot go get anything checked out and I'm getting more and more worried as time passes. All I want are answers and I can't seem to find any. Like many others the advil helps for a couple days then I will attempt to take it again and it will not help whatsoever.

Hello.

Have been reading the thread for a while. My name in Andrew, Im 26 and live in Liverpool in the UK.

I like to keep healthy. I exercise every day - whether it be running, cycling or walking. I don't smoke, and I eat healthy throughout the week. At weekends I enjoy a takeaway and a few pints of Gunniess. I don't drink throughout the week.

I had signed up to run my first half marathon in March 09 at the Silverstone race track, so I was running 20 miles per week to train for it (around 7 miles three times a week). I was also walking 3 miles every night. It was one very icy night in January when I was out walking that I slipped on the ice from underneath myself and went crashing to the concrete floor on my back and neck, and for a 6'2 and 15 stone lad I hit the ground with some force. I didn't have any pain, or any bruises and so thought I had got away without any consequences. I continued running 20 miles per week. I started to develop a small ache in my legs - I just put this down to the fact I was running alot - although now I see it was more than likely the fall to cause this.

Around 2-3 weeks after the fall, I started feeling unwell, on Monday 2nd February. In the 8 weeks since then I have suffered a muzzy head feeling - not a headache as such, terrible nausea, and complete fatigue. More recently I have had aches in my legs, back and my neck. I sometimes get twitches in either my arms or legs - this isn't problematic and only last for a couple of seconds. I've also had pins and needles in my arms and legs - although not this is not regular. The worst feeling is the nausea. I feel depressed as I didn't know what was wrong with me, and wasn't getting any better atall. This is the worst I have ever felt in my life, and at times I have felt desperate. I have been crying alot, praying that I get better. I often feel worse in the morning after I have woken up.

For 2 weeks from February 2nd I hoped I would get better, and as I'm not really one to myther, held off going to my doctor. I then went to see my doctor whom I told my symptoms, and he sent me for blood tests. These blood tests came back clear so he said to me "there is nothing physically wrong with you, I would suggest it is a mental problem - just go out and enjoy your life." The symptoms continued. I was getting worse as the worry was taking hold - I couldn't believe I felt so sick even though the doctor told me that I was physically fine. So I took myself off to the hospital. They did all kinds of tests on me and said that they could not find anything wrong with me either.

I tried a few herbal supplements - Gingko Biloba, Ginseng and St John's Wort. None did me any good - their side effects made me feel worse so I stopped taking them. I went back to the doctors and he prescribed me anti-depressants (Citalopram), which I started taking last Friday 20th March, as he said I was depressed again – even though the times I was ill in 2005 and 2008 was down to the penicillin allergic reaction and not depression. During the time I was on the antidepressants, at separate times both of my eyes closed up for a few hours. I just put this down to it being a side effect of the Citalopram.

The nausea and muzzy head have eased somewhat, but I’m still left with the fatigue and depression feeling – irritated, tired. I have been on the internet, trying to find some kind of answer. Then I came across an article that said that all my symptoms could be caused by a neck misalignment. I have since read up lots about this, and I was convinced that the fall I had in January has caused my neck to be misaligned, and causing me all my health problems, and that by a chiropractor re-aligning my neck into place I will hopefully soon get back to full health. So I went to see a chiropractor, who said that I had a ‘twisted spine’. I had 2 sessions with him, but after each one I was extremely fatigued, having to sleep constantly for two days. After the first session with the chiropractor I was reading at night – when I turned off the lights to go to sleep my eyes felt strange, and I couldn’t see out of my right eye. I covered my left eye and I could see nothing, I covered my right eye and I could see fine. I turned the lights on and I could see perfectly out of both eyes. This scared me as I have NEVER had a problem with my eyes before.

Any help atall I would appreciate!!!

I found this site and am very glad to hear I am not the only one going through this. This is horrible. I am rarely sick and am not a patient person when doctors can't figure out what's wrong.

Back in December, I had bronchitis and a very bad cough. The cough persisted for about 2 months, and I developed a sinus infection. After the first round of antibiotics, I wasn't any better and developed the same symptoms all of you describe - dizziness, heavy head, can't focus, upset stomach, etc. My family doctor prescribed a second round of antibiotics. The infection went away but the dizziness persists. The doctor and now ENT (Ear, Nose Throat dr) thought the ongoiing illness created a virus in my inner ear and I would have to wait it out.

Since early Feb, I have had an MRI, MRA, blood tests, and a balance test - all were normal. I go back to my family doctor on Monday to hear what is next.

My quality of life has significantly dropped since all of this. I was running 4 miles per day and now can barely make it through a sedentary work day. I'm exhausted when I get home. Sometimes I can't drive. Sitting makes my head swim.

It helps to hear the support on this site. Good luck to all of you and I'll keep you posted.

hi 'Guest', i think you should try alternative healing and not stick to orthodox medicine. I have personally tried Pranic healing. They are the most advanced form of alt.healing and they work with body energies...its nothing weird or spooky...just give it a shot...search online or in a directory for a pranic healing center located in your city.

I first had my attack in 2006, It was so bad that time and the docs said i was having a panic attack :S after that ive done my CT scans..this test ...that test...etc etc etc etc etc....its 2009 now and today I feel much better - i wont lie, im not 100% the same as before, but i def am better...do try pranic healing. and let us know the result. A little faith cud go a long way...

I'm so glad that I found this site. I thought I was going crazy and was imagining things.
All of the above mentioned symptoms - dizziness, heavy head, light nausea, fatigue - describe what I'm going through. I do have one additional symptom - my neck cracks when I turn my head. This all started a couple of months ago, when I found myself waking up from a deep sleep because I would be lying on my back, but have my head turned so sharply to the side that the pain woke me up. No matter what I tried to relax before sleeping, changing sleep positions, etc, I would always end up in that position and my neck would be stiff and painful all day long.
Shortly after that, the cracking started, followed by the rest of the symptoms. I haven't been to a doctor yet, but after reading all the replies on here it looks like I may be going to more than one and still not get a solution to the problem.
I sympathize with all of you who are going through this and hope that there is a cure for this somewhere.
