If you have a urinary tract infection and get a pap test at the same time, can the bacteria from the urinary tract infection affect the results of the pap test? Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

I had an untreated urinary tract infection when I had my last pap test. Then the pap test came back abnormal and the doctor said the pap test said LSIL and was most likely from HPV or bacteria. She didn't know for sure. Just wondering if the UTI could have caused bacteria to affect the pap test. Everything in that area is related. I've never had a UTI before or an abnormal pap test before. I have to wait until the 19th to go back to the doctor for follow up.

I had this happen before. You can get a urinary tract infection and it go into your vagina. Then there can be little to no symptoms. I had a slight discharge that most doctors said looked normal. I went to get a pap test and I had two infections and had a bad pap. Get treated and retake the pap. They sometimes work with the insurance to allow you to take the test again. If they don't go to another doctor. Infections can alter the test results. It is not a cancer detection test. It just detects abnormal looking cells.
