I had wrist surgery october of 2006. After the surgery I had to go to the ER because I could not urinate. They cathed and got over 2 liters out. The Doctor told me it was a side effect from the anesthia. I wore a catheter for three days. The nurse removed it and sent me home. I still could not urinate, so I had to be cathed again for a week. I went to a urologist at a well known University, the Doctor agreed it was from the anesthia. The Doctor taught me how to self cath and sent me home. I had to cath several times a day for along time. Then down to approximately once a day.
Today Feb. 21 2008 I still have to cath atleast once a day. I have tried not to and I will somtimes wet in my pants after I leave the bathroom.
The unusual part is I am 32 year old female. Has anyone ever heard of such a thing? I had a second opinion as well, he agreed the anesthia instigated it, but don't know why I am still haveing problems.
Any info will be appriciated.
