I am so glad I found this site! It never occurred to me that my itching can be caused from the Mirena! I've had the IUD for about 9 months now and the itching probably started about 3-4 months ago, but this last month has been the worst! I cry in the shower and have relied on Benadryl to help me sleep at night. This whole time I've associated my itchiness with breastfeeding.

I've gone to the doctor's five times this month! First time, I had BV and second time, eczema. I was treated for both with antibiotics and steroid meds and ointment, all while using Vagisil and Monistat. The anti-inch creams were not helpful at all. I had some relief after I was treated for the BV then shortly after, the itching game back. Saw the doctor for a third time and was diagnosed with a yeast infection! Was treated with that and still no relief! I went back to the doctor's yesterday, (which was my 4th visit) and she said there's no infection down there and she suspected it might be scabies. Although she wasn't sure, she was going to write me a prescription for it anyways without any testing. BUT since I'm breastfeeding, I'm not allowed to take the medication.

BV, yeast infection and eczema are all new to me, never had it before! And don't let me go home to my 10 month old baby thinking I have scabies?!!! ;( So today I went to another doctor and she said I don't have scabies but there's nothing wrong with me. That I'm "washing too much" down there, that it's "dry" and to use Cetaphil. Really?!!

I'm scratching like crazy! I've used coconut oil and even apple cider vinegar! I don't remember the last time I've had sex? I'm miserable and cranky all the time due to lack of sleep. Now I think my stress is causing me to itch all over my body - stomach, arms, breast. I've googled everything possible. I've been with my partner for over 8 years, but took an STD test anyway, negative of course. I am going crazy! I do not wish this upon anyone!

So glad I stumbled upon this website and will be making an appt asap about removing the IUD!

I am so glad to have found others with the same symptoms!! Have been to the doctors 4 or 5 times and every time they have recommended a thrush treatment, which helps for a few weeks then it's back again. I had mine put in 8 weeks after the birth of my son and 10 months later I'm still having so much trouble! I have an appointment on Monday to get it removed so I'm hoping all my symptoms clear up after that! It's hard enough recovering after birth, adding these extra symptoms onto it all has been extra hard. I hope everyone finds a solution

Please let us know if it's better after the removal of the IUD! You are absolutely right! It is hard enough trying to recover after birth AND having all these extra symptoms is not helping! I just want my body to be semi normal again!

Hi everyone. I had the Mirena taken OUT in Dec 2016 because of all the symptoms I kept having. I HATE to say that I STILL feel side affects!!! I am constantly getting "inflammation" around the outside of my labia and after that subsides I get some sporadic itchiness. It's a combination of these that alternate: burning/tingling/ and itchy feeling!!! All of this makes me loose sleep and I can't stand it anymore!!!! I've been to the Doctor several times, negative for stds and no infections. All I was told was that it was a dermatological issue due to soaps and was prescribed some ointment which I use when I am feeling my symptoms and feel better after using it. I have changed my soaps but I still get all the time. I only have a few days a month where I feel normal. All I know is that I NEVER had this before the Mirena and I'm wishing I never tried this thing to begin with!!! Is anyone else having this even after the Mirena is OUT ?? It's Crazy! And I am so miserable!!!

i got my mirena 6 months ago and i was fine up until a month ago when I started to have itching, burning, and a prickly sensation all over my vulva. I have been a revolving door to the doctor since. I got a yeast infection and BV and my symptoms persisted. I got tested for STDs with negative results. My doctor tested me again for BV and yeast with negative results and thank god my doctor suggested that maybe it's the IUD causing it. It had never occurred to me. So I finally got it removed yesterday and within hours my symptoms were subsiding. I woke up this morning with my itching and burning almost 100% gone. I already feel like I couldn't have made a better decision for my body. Just a side note, it is totally possible to remove mirena yourself. The doctor in the office just grabs it and pulls it out and if you can grab a hold of it you can do the same thing. I'm not advising anyone to do so, just stating a fact that it's possible. I will post in a few days about how I'm feeling but I have high hopes that this nightmare is over for me and hopefully you all can get some relief from having yours removed too.

I got mine Out in December/2016 and I still feel itching/burning/and prickly sensations :( Also tested negative for all tests. The doctor only said it was dermatitis...But it does not go away even after changing soaps and everything!

How are you feeling after removal? I got mine removed and still feel the itchiness that won't let me sleep sometimes. Steroid ointments just make me worse and it's been a nightmare because it caused me to chap and peel down there making it worse! I've gotten tested for everything and I'm negative for all. I'm loosing my mind over this!

How long did you have yours in for? I've noticed that people who had it in for longer have symptoms that last longer. My symptoms are fading but not totally gone yet. My doctor said they should be gone after about a month. I hope you find some peace.

Thanks for your response! I had mine for one year and 1 month and it's been 4 months since they removed my Mirena. How long do you think it will be before I feel better?? I've tried steroid ointments but it still doesn't go away. I still get itchy feelings all around the inside of my vulva almost every day especially on my right outer side skin. I'm thinking of going to a dermatologist.

Hi. I got mine removed months ago and am still itchy all around even on my clit. I'm wondering if I still may have an infection and need antibiotics to get rid of this once and for all!!!

I had mine for 6 months and it's taken almost 4 weeks for symptoms to subside. I still occasionally have them but my doctor said that's the hormone leaving my system. It ebbs and flows. I truly believe you will find some relief. I would suggest trying to not use anything on yourself for a couple weeks and see if it helps. I sure hope you can find some relief. I will come back and report when my symptoms are fully gone, but the past week or so I'm having more good days than bad. Be gentle with yourself! Have faith, I believe you will feel better once you can fully get the hormones out.

If you're worried you have an infection the only way you can rule it out is by having the tests done. Might want to set up an appointment with your doctor.

Thank you so much Melissa! I recently just started to get the itchy rashes on my left outer side also :( It Looks like the "Dermatitis" my GYN told me that I have, may be eczema!!!! So weird that this is now appearing "down there" after I take the Mirena out!!! It's so annoying!!!

It has been over four weeks for me now and the symptoms are fading, even though they are fading slowly. One thing I would recommend is trying CBD oil. It does not get you high because it doesn't contain THC and it is legal in all 50 states now. It has helped me immensely dealing with the symptoms I have left. It makes them bearable and I will continue to take it for a couple months until the hormones are completely out of my system. I am so sorry you're still struggling. I occasionally get eczema but I've never had it down there thank god! I would recommend trying the CBD oil to alleviate symptoms while the hormones leave your body. I find that no one really understands what we are going through except others who are experiencing it.
