I too have these symptoms but have a diff theory. I think I have atrophic vaginitis. It sbeen misdiagnosed as thrush for years. The prob has been I did have the mirena coil- which is progesterone only coil. I had that for 2 years. Tehn took it out, had a baby and now been breastfeeding for 16 months. Both b feeding and the coil will lower the estrogen levels ehich causes atrophic vag. Hence the dryness and sore ness and itchingt that I thougth was thrush. Today I put alubricating gel on my bits and already they have stopped itching!! I am awaitng a swab result to confirm its not yeast inf.

Okay, so I am finally convinced that Im not crazy. I have had the itching, biting, burning symptoms for 11 months and am tired of my ob/gyn prescribing cortizones and treating me for yeast infections month after month. The itching and crawling symptons start two weeks after I had the Mirena inserted and have been ongoing ever sense. Prior to the Mirena, I had the paraguard IUD for 10 years and never experienced any of the symptons I am experiencing now. The only reason I changed to the Mirena is because my current Dr. didnt carry the paraguard IUD in his office anymore and was not willing to order the Paraguard IUD for me because he would have to order in bulk!!! . BIG MISTAKE! I should have gone with my gut instinct and found another Dr. who carried the Paraguard.

At any rate, I am happy to report that I have a new Dr. now who so is so nice and understanding. I explained to her my symptoms and she believes I have a sensitivity to the hormone found in the Mirena. I am scheduled to have the Mirena removed next week and replaced with the paraguard. I will be sure to post in a few weeks to let everyone know if the dreadful itch I have been experiencing all these month has gone away. Keeping my fingers crossed :-)

My wife is having the same problem with teh pink discharge and she just got the merina a couple months ago... We were trying to avoid myself getting a vasectomy incase we wanted to have more children later on in life... We have 3 now and I guess I will just go ahead and get a vasectomy to save my wife from all this trouble... Seems they would do better with getting these problems corrected before putting these things in women.. Glad it works for some but it seems it is a problem for most... Guess its time for a vasectomy....

I had the mirena put in March 2009 at my six week check up after my son was born. The mirena was nothing but trouble!!! I had burning and itching after intercouse. I had at least ten yeast infections in 5 months ( I stopped counting after ten) was constantly bleeding ( I bled for months straight!) terrible breakouts and HORRIBLE mood swings!! I went to see my doctor in January 2010 because I couldn't find the strings, and I was tired of all the side effects. She found the strings they were tucked up inside, as for the side effects the gave me yeast infection cream and suggested I leave the mirena in. I went back in Feb 2010 and I told her that I couldn't take it anymore and I wanted it out!! She said that She felt that I wasn't ready to have another baby right now (I am Married) and none of the things going on with my body had to do with the mirena. She told me to just tough it out until May and then maybe she would remove it. (I was also treated again for ANOTHER yeast infection!!) So I waited..... all the side effects continued. FINALLY it was time for my appointment!! When the doctor was doing the exam she told me that there was a problem.... she couldn't find the mirena. I was FREAKING out!!! My doctor scheduled me for an ultrasound the following day and Suggested that I see another Dr at the clinic. I went in the next day for my ultrasound and then I had to wait a week because the Dr couldn't get me in right away. I was going nuts that whole week!!! I FINALLY got the damn thing out!!! It has only been 2 weeks since I had it removed and so far i have had a normal period, my breakouts have slowed down my moods swings are better and as far as the yeast infections I hope they are gone!!!!!! I wouldn't suggest this method of birth control to anyone!!! The side effects are the worst things I have ever experienced!! I feel for every woman that has had all of these thing happen to them!!!

I am truly disappointed and saddened yet relieved after reading all these posts!!! I just started to experience the same symptoms....after i finally stopped bleeding!!! I put the mirena in 6 wks after having my second child in Feb of this year and just when i thought the mirena and i could get along, up comes along the discharge and itching and pain. I did notice that right before this occurrence sex was painful and that was weird to me. It started off with an itch and now it burns during urination due to the cuts. I get a gush of discharge causing me to continue to have to wear liners after i thought i would get a break from wearing them due to the bleeding. And right before this happened i notice i broke out in little pimples ALL OVER my face! I use to have a acne problem and with age and change of diet and watching my stress i barely get any pimples so this here is ridiculous. I knew the mirena would cause me to have mood swings, which i didnt mind, because after all i was preventing pregnancy but the pain in the vagina is intolerable. I've also experienced cramping, not bleeding, but cramping along with itching and burning making my life a living hell. I will go in to see the doctor to make sure i have the right diagnosis. I too am married and monogamous with my partner. I will also see what natural and better cures are out there. But the real reason why im saddened is that the mirena iud was like a godsend! I hated the pills! And now with a newborn and another child, i really couldnt afford to rely on myself to remember to take bc pills. I really dont want to have to remove the mirena, but if this is going to be an ongoing thing, i can not deal with the pain and i will have to remove it. >;)

I had Mirena inserted in May of '09, it is now June '10 and I have had bacterial vaginosis 5 times, usually followed by a yeast infection, they get harder and harder to treat, guess your body gets used to the medicine and it doesn't work as well. I have found that Thursday Plantation Tea Tree Oil vaginal suppositories work pretty well, on the last 2 I used them, didn't go to the doctor. Don't bother with putting yogurt up there, doesn't work, and drinking cider vinegar and honey is really putrid, couldn't tell you if it works. Other than the infections I really like Mirena, the only other side effect was for a few months I got acne- just tiny whiteheads though, but on my chest and back too, which I've never had. Also, use tea tree oil soap for this (been using it for about a month and it's good stuff). I had some cramping, the insertion is pretty painful especially if you have not had children, contraction-like, I'm told by a friend with three children. My hips came up off the table about a foot! I had these contractions for a few hours at work...wouldn't recommend working the same day. If it wasn't for the infections, this is the best birth control ever, in my opinion, have taken different birth control pills over the years and they all made me crazy, fat and nauseous. I broke up with my boyfriend so I removed the Mirena myself about an hour ago with a couple glasses of wine in me- used a crochet hook 'cause the threads had looped back up, and a rubber glove for gripping. Was not bad taking it out, going to try neem oil as a contraceptive if I ever have sex again.

I got my mirena in just over a year ago and the itching and burning didn't start until it was in for a year. Now it comes once a month along with my period that is only a second long. I think I'd rather have the tampax. ;-)

Well girls...
I had Mirena inserted back in July of 2007. I had it removed in Feb. of this year. With in this time, I gaianed 35 lbs., and looked 4 months pregnant., Since removal I did lose 15 lbs., but the whole burning, itching, discharge part is still slightly there, I have been to my dr. and she said it was a yeast infection, gave me a 1 dose pill treatment.. lasted about 3 weeks until my period came around. I have never heard of bacterial Vaginosis before reading this.. thank you so much for the enlightenment. I am calling that crazy Dr. tomorrow morning, and telling her a piece of my mind!

Well...I have been having the same issues. I had the Mirena put in January of 2009 and not shortly thereafter I started having the burning and irritation after sex. The last time I had the burning, irritation, itching and discharge (about a month ago), I was really hurting and went to the doctor because I knew it was just too bad. Now, I feel like its coming back and have noticed the pattern that is around the time I start spotting like when I'm getting ready to have a period. This has been really putting a damper in my life. I thought it might be an STD even though my husband swears he been faithful (we been married for 10 yrs.) I have been feeling so depressed and upset for the past couple of days cause of my damn feminine issues, and was dreading going to the doc Friday cause I didn't wanna hear bad news about it being an STD or something like that. I'm so glad this morning I decided to google the Mirena iud to see if people were having the same issues, and viola...a bunch of women are having the same messed up issues i been suffering from...sooo....i think this thing might need to come out! This is very upsetting.. It's been affecting me for a long time and it is embarrassing. I'm in tears right now thinking about it cause it sucks not being able to talk to people about it without them thinking you got an STD and taking it the wrong way. I was just soooo relieved that i'm not the only person going through this....it is really one of the main reasons my sex life has change and is sucking so bad. I don't perform like i should...cause my vajajay its irritated and irritating me all the time.

I had the Mirena IUD placed in November of 2009. For the past 4 months I have been diagnosed with bacteria vaginosis after every period. I have been put on antibiotics 5 times in the past 4 months! And, I have tried the yogurt and, although it may lesson the symptoms, it does not stop the infections from occurring. I feel, after reading blogs, that the issue is with the Mirena and I am seriously considering having it removed!! The positive effects of lighter periods does not outweigh the medical bills I'm paying in going to the doctor every month and going on meds. It is very frustrating! >:(
