I had the same problem and saw several doctors, had 9 different cultures that came back clean. I began seeing a new doctor a few years ago and insisted he do something to help me. He has done cultures every couple of months and they were all clean but he had me try different meds just to see if anything would work. It didn't. I was finally tested for about 30 things and got a positive for 2. The first was strep B, something we all have but is not a problem unless there is an overgrowth or if you are pregnant, which I am not, because it can cause pemature labor. It is treated with penicillin. The second thing was a total shock. Herpes. I have no sores, burning, itching, tingling, or anything to indicate this diagnosis. Even my doctor was shocked and had only checked because all the other cultures came back fine. He ordered blood work just to be sure because he was not expecting the culture to be positive. I have been married for years with grown children and we have both been faithful. I have learned that most people do not know they have it and are asymptomatic. You can have it your whole life and not know, but you can still spread it to others. I have since done research and learned that herpes is so common with some studies indicating 1 in 4 people have it with 500,000 new known cases reported each year in the U.S. and an unknown number contract it but are unaware due to the lack of symptoms. The only problem I had was a heavy whitish dishcarge that was so heavy it would soak through a panty liner. I often felt the discharge like I was starting my period. Sometimes I could see it in the toilet. Since my husband and I are faithful to each other our life has not changed. (When my husband was about 19 he had what he thought was the flu with swollen glands in his throat and we think that might be when he got it. Every few years since then he gets swollen glands which we have learned can be a symptom.) Please check with your doctor. If you have the same problem I do you do not want to spread it to the people you care about. I hope you have something simple like strep B which is easily treated. Good luck.
