i have an ultrasound today and notice i got varicocele and the doctor said its not dangerous and will have a follow up with me in two weeks. my question is
1= should i get surgery or leave it because currently i dont feel pain discomfort or anything
2= does having varicocele for a long period of time can cause PERMENANT infertility? i know it can cause problem wif fertility but is it permanent?
3= i am 18 right now so if i ignore it and wait til im around 25-26 and if i have fertility problem then can i get surgery then? does it make it worse if u leave it for a long time?

hey johndenns,
from what i could find out there is some return of fertility after the vericoceles is fixed. however normally the longer you wait the less fertility you will probably get back. its really hard to tell because there is very little resarch done in this area that doesnt have a whole bunch of varialbles. did the doctor say what grade of vericoceles you have (how sever they are) also are they in both testicles or just one? theses all play factors in how your fertility will be affected in the future.
vericoceles harm sperm development/maturation as well as hindering the testicles thermoregulation. they keep the testicles warmer than they should be thus killing more spermcells since sperm is very temperature sensitive.
hope this helps keep us posted and let me know if you have any other questions or concerns 8)

well im not 100% sure if fertility is permanatly affected. normally it resolves once the surgery is done but if you wait several years then perhaps it could lower you fertility permanatly.... but do you have them in both testicles or just one? if you only have them in one the your other testicle will still function normally and not have any fertility issues..... there are plenty of people who just have one testicle and are perfectly fertil.

um its up to you... how bad is it?? as far as the staging level? the only thing i wonder about would be if there would be an increase chance of developing cancer in that testicle... (I DONT KNOW IF IT WOULD INCREASE THE CHANCE BUT JUST A THOUGHT).... but yea otherwise i think it probably would be alright to leave it for a while unless something changes.
also remember to do testicular self exams monthly incase something does develope :/

nope its probably a stage I. very tiney if you look up images of vericoceles some are huge and bulging. they can easily be seen through the scrotum.
you should be fine ;-) 8)

What a person should avoid doing when he has a little pain in the testicles and doctors have suspected varicocele?
I mean lifting weights, standing for too long, running, etc?
Does it affect fertility?
