Generally Lumps under the chin would be an enlargement of the submental lymph node, which could mean that your body is fighting an infection causing the node to become enlarged slightly tender, and generally movable. I would not worry, it is similar to your tonsils swelling up, just a warning that you have an infection. Probably not a big deal, but you may want to go to the doctors.

Hey everyone who has a painful limp the size of a pea under their chin. This is most likely an inflamed and enlarged lymph node. They arise due to an infection which you may be having in your mouth or an area surrounding your chin. So long as the lymph node is movable and remains only about the size of a pea, it is not indicative of anything dangerous like cancer. After the infection has passed, the lymph node will resume its normal small size.

Things to note: If the node is immovable, non tender, and quite large it would be best to see a doctor.

Hope this has helped.

I had this a few month/yrs ago once the first time I was SOOOO scared thinking it was cancer also, but then I immediately went to the doctor and it was just an infection. Now today I'm getting the same thing again so tomorrow ima go again to the doctor, but now im more relieve knowing that is just an infection. I usually get this when im about to get sick, sick, or after i had been sick. Which also may follow by an ear infection as well.

I have one tooo ! it randomly showed up one day and its reallly sore. it wasnt super visible, but it was dry.
it got bigger and turned like a dark redish purple. it almost feels like a bruise? the only thing i could find about it on the internet was to put a icecube on it, which only hurt really bad. so dont do thattt..
but it doesnt hurt as bad anymore, and its getting somewhat smaller. it still worries me tho, because it could apparently be a nodule? they loook pretty nasty , and they have to be surgically removed.

im not tooo sure, but i think im going to go to the doctors if it doesnt get any better, since i get cysts. im only fifteen, and i have five, and have had one removed. this feeels nothing like those tho.

and speaking from how mine feeels, i think its the best idea for anyone with one of these stupid thinnngs to have it seen to!

gooooood luck ! alea♥

Im also in the same place as most of you, a pea sized lump on my chin ive previously had my spots in that area before and i think its a very large spot that if left should develop a head which should make it easy to extract. if there's no head do not try ans extract because it will make it worse and infected.

However its very painful and red, does anyone know how to relieve me of the swelling and redness?

The same has happened to me, its about the size of a pea, and right under a spot on my chin. The spot has been there for a few months now and the lump only hurts when i press down or squeeze it gently. I have only noticed it the last few days.
I play flute, could that be part of the problem.
And... is this serious because I am only 14. :/

wow... half of you are talking about one thing, half of you are talking about another.  to those of you with "lumps" (usually red) on the surface of your skin, this is probably either a bug bite or cystic acne (meaning you get a lump, but no white head for a few days like normal acne). these hurt because there is usually puss accumulating rapidly under the skin... think of it like a water balloon; it stretches your skin and that is why it hurts.  try putting a dab of toothpaste on it over night or leaving a tea bag on it for 20 minutes. this will dry it out and make it less painful.

the rest of you are talking about a pea-sized lump UNDER the skin (not a zit on TOP of the skin), which is probably a swollen lymph node. if it hurts, see your doctor. if it grows rapidly, see your doctor. if it lasts for more than a week without changing, see your doctor. if it is hard and immoveable, see your doctor. if you're still unsure and you just want to put your mind at ease, go see your doctor. your lymph nodes often swell slightly whenever you get a sore throat, ear infection, etc., so little that you don't notice it. don't freak out, because it's probably nothing, but do see a doctor if you're still nervous or if it doesn't go away, or if it's painful. some antibiotics may help.

as for those worried about SALIVARY GLAND infections - as is SALIVA, not SLAVERY GLANDS as some people wrote, LOL - this is usually accompanied by a bad taste in your mouth and difficulty or pain when opening the mouth, so if you don't have these symptoms, this may not be your guy.

in any case, the best way to find out what you have is to go to your doctor, who can look at what you really have and help you out or at least give you some peace of mind, rather than looking on the internet with a vague list of symptoms - this page is proof: people have suggested everything from zits to cancer!!

It also could just be a calcium buildup in one of the glands. When that happens, calcium will harden up and block one of your glands, causing them to swell. It can get really bad, and your neck might swell a lot. If you tried a bunch of things, one thing I suggest it eating lemons. It helps break up a lot of things that could be blocking in your gland, including calcium.

I have a pretty much golf ball sized, pretty firm lump under my chin and off to the side a little. It hurt if I press it in a little and it also hurts if I stick out my tongue. It just started appearing after I was eating some potato chips. I am not sick at all. I got it yesterday and still have it today. Is that characteristic of something with your lymph glands?

I have a pea sized lump on my chin that randomly appeared today. It is tender to touch and is moveable. Even though I don't think it's harmful, would it be wise to visit my doctor for an antibiotic? I dont want to wait a long time for it to go away.
