Hi
I have a 20 yr old daughter.
She has the same thing you have and has been referred to a clinic for one hour per week to support her through this time.
She has her trigger point which it started which was roughly 2 years ago.
If I could just explain how she Isis that she basically was fasting for 5 days then eating for 2.
We have been to the clinic this morning and they are unsurprised at her losing another 2 lb.
I can't control what and when she eats I know that much but I want to buy vitamins for her.
She has a calcium vitamin already and I was wondering can she take a number of different things at once?

I agree. I am 56 years old and anorexic. It has gotten bad and i have just been diagnosed. I don't remember ever seeing myself as far but have definitely kept control of my weight because everyone in my family was obese.

Can anyone answer the question: Which dietary supplements or vitamins etc., are best help a recovering anorexic. As was asked by the original poster. Please don't reply 'you need therapy', 'cos we already know that. Thanks!

"A simple dietary change" doesn't work for a mental disorder around food restriction. Seems you don't know anything about the disorder, so please refrain from giving advice until you know more.

I would add potassium, magnesium, calcium, vitamin d and b vitamins. Especially folate and b12. Also K2. Most people get enough sodium and you can get phosphorus from carbonated diet beverages.

Folks - I have a daughter suffering from Anorexia and I am looking for a good L-Tryptophan supplement. I have researched the subject and there is a biochemical reaction to having low or no levels of Tryptophan which leads to reduces serotonin levels. This results in depression etc. There is a book by a lady called Julia Ross which explains this in detail. It is called The Diet Cure and is available on Amazon. She recommends Zinc and Magnesium as well as B vitamins. I am currently researching a supplement called Brainsmart Mood from a UK company that has all of these except zinc plus 5HTP, Lemon Balm and some others. Please research this for yourself and let us know how you get on. I hope this has been of some help. Good Luck & God Bless - Martin

what does this have to do with dietary supplements

You should definitely try 5-HTP! 5-HTP is the intermediate compound that L-Tryptophan gets turned into while making serotonin. I'm anorexic and 5-HTP has been very helpful for me - it helps with my sleep and mood. However, 5-HTP tends to make people sleepier when they take it, and you can't take as much of it as you can with L-tryptophan (which doesn't help sleep as immediately). Additionally, the enzyme (a protein which carries out biological reactions) which turns L-tryptophan into 5-HTP requires iron as a cofactor ("helper" chemical), so if your daughter may be anemic, just taking L-tryptophan could not work as well. Finally, though, L-tryptophan is also a precursor for vitamin B3, which helps convert food into fuel for the body, and it is also an important part of proteins in the body, so it is better than 5-HTP in that regard. As you mentioned, zinc and magnesium are also very important, I would also add potassium and calcium, and potentially iron if she has anemia. Hope I helped, and I hope your daughter finds recovery.

I know this is really late, and I hope your daughter recovered by now, but what I take as an anorexic are just multivitamins and cod liver oil to try to keep my hair and skin as healthy as an anorexic's hair and skin can be.

Fish oil combined with prenatals. And at a separate time of the day add an airborne. Your diet needs the tiny bit of fat in the fish oil to help the other vitamins digest to protect your brain liver kidney and heart. Immune system is also at risk & these help with that as well.

Yes. and I would get he on weight gain shakes at GNC. I had to buy 2 weight gain shakes from GNC, one showed 400 calories per serving and the other showed 2,000. I emptied the 400 container and replaced it with 2,000 power mix. My daughter started gaining weight about 10 days in, and is now normal weight at 24. Also, I used vitamin, B, E, C, zinc, magnesium, and a few others. Treatment center did no good in 2 months, and only after I looked on the internet and found that this disease is a mineral and vitamin deficiency and applied vitamins and mineral to her diet, she started to eat healthy within 6 weeks. I wish all the very best.

Alrighty so I'm a 22 yo male 5'11 weighing in at 98-115 lb depending on the week. I find it very strange with this because 1 I'm male and not alot of people for me to relate too. 2 I don't worry about gaining weight, I'm more worried about being a twig as I have been called my whole live. Yet I struggle with eating and over the last few months I noticed a few effects. 1) I get light headed alot more and it lasts longer, so I probably need more iron. 2) my chest/heart feels weak sometimes 3) no energy and sometimes i dont feel like I can think straight, life is kinda blurry sometimes 4) being around food or even thinking of food makes me nauseous. 5) moody as all heck.. but I guess I do it so I have a feeling of control over my life and what I do. But that's just what I hear everyone else say so idk what's in my head. I came to see what supplements I should be taking.
