For my compressed nerve C6 A specialist suggested cortisone shot to get rid of the inflammation My ND knowing my hypersenstivity to most chemical told me to research and consider Prolozone which natural substances and decreases inflammation studies indicate that it is way more effective than regular steriod shots, I have a chiropractor here that worked with olympic atheletes and he has trained his massage staff on how to help decompress a nerve and wow two massages and I could not believe the change I also massage castor oil with DMSO in the side with warm heating pad. First I put the pad on high then I turn it OFF then put on the site of my compression it is best to just hire some one to do hydrotherapy on the area for and hour this is remarkable at creating the flow in the neck region. Hi there! I am so glad (sorry) to hear that someone else is having the same symptoms as me. Today I feel totally nauseated with a really bad headache. But it is this constant pain in my shoulders that is bothering me. Am off to see the Doc tomorrow. I saw a Chiropractor too, but it didn't help. The only thing I haven't tried yet is a massage. I feel as though I want someone to really get their fingers into the muscles on my shoulders but based on your experience, I am a little nervous to do that. I will post something else if I have any answers. Regards Maggie

I have had these same issues and as of yet, nothing has helped. I know I have a pinched nerve, (also referred to as a herniated disc, bulging disc, slipped disc, ruptured disc, etc.) between c6 and c7. I didn't have the "heavy head" issues at first, just the slight neck pain and pain in my upper arm and numbness and tingling in my lower arm. My primary ran tests at first including a xray but couldn't see anything specific, so he finally referred me to a orthopedic specialist.

They at first did the same thing I am hearing in this post with sending me out for differnt things. The first was physical therapy. And I noticed that it didn't seem to help and actually to me, seemed to make the pain and numbness worse. I also tried electrotherapy. And no relief there either. Then they decided to do a MRI. And the test showed that I had a pinched nerve between c6 and c7.

So since I had already tried a couple thing's, they suggested I do a spinal steroid eperdural injection. I had 2 different orthopedic doctors (at the same place, just depended on who was available when I needed a appointment) and they both were saying in their opinion I should be having the pain and numbness in my right arm and I was having it my left arm. I didn't srgue much because what do I know about it. All I said was that the pain was in my left arm. Well when they did the first injection, they put it all on the right side. And though it relieved some of the pain in my upper arm, it did nothing for the lower arm numbness. So after a few months, they suggested doing it again because some people it can take a multiple injections to fully relieve the issues. So the second time when I went in, I talked to the doctor that was doing the injection (which is a anesthesiologist if your wondering) about what the doctors were saying about where the pain should be and where it actually is, and he said he would spread the shot out evenly on both sides to see if that helps. And it did relieve the upper arm pain for the main part (only get a occassional pain here and there, and I can live with that), but once again nothing for the lower arm issues.

So I was then given a nerve test to make sure there was no nerve issues and all that was fine. I then was given a few more option I could try. And I saw a lot of them in these posts, massage therapy, acupuncture, more injections or surgery. So I took a couple months to really research the issue and what could work the best as well as actually going and talking to people that would do these proceedures. And from what I found out, all of them would really be a bandaid on the problem and not a solution. Now different people react differently to different proceedures, but if you logically look at it, for a example, how would rubbing your neck fix a ruputred disc, ect.. So I elected for surgery.

But before I decided this was the definate way to go, I had a consult with 2 surgeons from 2 different places to ask my questions and see what they had to say. Which brings me to the "heavy neck" issue. I had asked my regular orthopedic if the new "heavy neck" feeling I was now suffering from can be related to the disc problem, and they both said no. The pain would travel down and not up. However, both of the surgeons said yes it can and in a lot of cases, it does. And they also said that looking at my MRI, the other doctors were treating the wrong side. They said that both sides of my disc was pressing against the nerve, however the left side was by far worse than the right. He also said any monkey doctor should have seen that which leave me to wonder how good  the care is that people recieve these days. Even my primary doctor will ask me a question, then type it in a computer, then ask me something else and put that in the computer and so on and then finally he says he will try this. Almost like he is getting all his questions and answers from a computer program. What has the world come to?

Anyways, I have elcted to continue with the surgery and it is scheduled for coming monday (September 16, 2013). I have been told that if this is the problem, I will notice the pain and numbeness will immediately be gone. I will however still be sore from the surgery and all until I completely heal, but should feel the difference. They said that this is a issue and it needs to be taken care of, but this is now way to say it is the only issue I have that could be causing the pain and numbness, but until I eliminate that issue, no one will ever know. I will be having a infussion surgery. So I will keep you all posted on what comes of it as soon as I am able to sit in front of a computer again.

I just wanted to share my exeirences because they are so close to other issues others are having. Also I forgot to mention that I also am suffering from axiety and I am suppose to be on meds for it, but I had my gallbladder removed back in June and have been having some digestive issues so the meds were making me feel sick so I was told to stop taking them until I get that problem worked out, which I haven't yet. So not sure if that is playing a roll into how my neck is feeling or not, but thought I would mention it just in case this surgery doesn't help, I have that to follow up on. So if you don't have a disc issue, then maybe look into the axiety and stress issues and see if that helps. You body can make you feel so many different ways for the same problem as well as the same way for so many differnet reasons. But I will let you all know when I find something out. IF I DO.

I've felt this way for about a year now. I just turned 19 in August so I know I shouldn't even be feeling or thinking this way. But last year in November, I felt so sick and had knots in my stomach I was convinced something was wrong. I went to the ER...nothing. I started feeling worse, so bad I started thinking of every little thing that could be wrong. I even thought I could be dying. I wouldn't sleep at night because I was so afraid I wouldn't wake up. I went to the ER 3 times in one week. Had a CT, everything was fine. My last visit, I was prescribed with the lowest dosage of anxiety medication. It helped tremendously while I had it. But when my weeks worth of medicine ran out, I realized everything that was "wrong" was all in my head. So, I obviously have bad anxiety. But I don't want to be one of those people who have to take Xanax everyday just to stay happy. I'm now starting college and its all starting over again. I need helpful tips on how to get through anxiety/depression spells?!

ok guys.
i know what your problem is !!
mine started a year ago and i am beating it but getting a few relapses along the way.
its all in your neck.
all nerves that come out of your neck are affected by muscle tension. i had that spaced out feeling etc. dizziness etc.
mine apparently has been caused by 20 years of poor posture at the computer.
basically, tense muscle in your neck can press upon the blood vessels supplying your brain. as well as this there are certain nerves in your neck, that long with your ear, regulate balance and hearing. i have tinnitus at the moment (caused by the nerves in the neck, not the ear).

basically what you guys need is an OSTEPATH. these guys work on the musculo- skeletal system. i see a sprts injury guy for the muscle (i.e. a deep deep masssage) and the main guy for trying to straighten my back,

seriously, this is the problem.

it will take many visits but is worth it !!! im better than i was but my tension returns within a week. i see them on a weekly basis.

good luck

Hello Friends,

I want to explain you my situation. Around 3 yrs back i went for an outing to a resort with my college friends and ended up messing my neck up. i was sliding down the water slide an did not realize my friend coming right after me, the speed with which we came down would be around 40-45 KMPH and he ended up falling on my neck, stretching it to it's limits. i immediately started getting the unbearable pain. i visited a doctor and  he told me that it's just a ligament tear, i got the X-Ray done on my neck and everything seemed to be alright, no spine injury or fractures and he suggested an ultrasound which he said was not mandatory and said that it will heal on its own and if it doesn't than i will have to go under the knife. so up to three years everything was fine, but suddenly nowi am feeling dizzy and a slight neck pain on the same affected area. I've goggled this problem and the remedy is a simple massage to the lower neck. the problem is i don't want to spend $2000 on an MRI scan for nothing. so need some suggestion from you folks.

I Wish No One Had To Go Through This But Glad To Know I Am Not Alone. It Is So Hard For Anyone To Understand Unless They Are Going Through It Too. The Best Way To Describe My Symptoms Is Neck Pain And Feeling So Out Of It Like My Brain Isn't Getting The Blood Flow And Oxygen It Needs. I Have Even Felt Like My Brain Is Shutting Down. I Know I Have Anxiety But I Think It's Due To These Symptoms. I Have Been In Car Accidents, Had Whiplash And Herniated Discs. I Was Thinking Of Trying Cranial Therapy Or Myofascial Massage. I Will Try The Advice People Gave On Here Too. Also We Have To Make Sure We Drink Lots Of Water And Eat Foods That Fight Inflammation.

If nobody knows the solution then why should I care finding it myself?

It's been 7 years.

What the.... this issue should be listed as one of the greatest mystery of mankind.

Or maybe we should wait till a reasonable technology beyond our existing conprehension will finally arise.

Iam a 62 yr old male and have had similar symptoms for a few years.  MY doctors dont know what it is.  I have thyroid nodules (not cancerous) which my doctor doesnt think has any bearing on this problem.  MY legs feel weak along with my neck.  I do have high blood pressure (controlled with medication) and type 2 diabetes.  Avg 150. I am scheduled to get an mri of my head and an appointment with a neurologist.  I hope we can cure this problem.  It is quite miserable and I cannot do certain things i.e.  ride motorcycles, run, etc.  Any suggestions
