hello! i too had a total colectomy in 2013 due to colonic inertia and though i am not sick from nausea and constipation, i too have gained 30plus pounds. I sympathize with all, i was a competitive bodybuilder and i work out and do cardio 6 days a week and yes no results. I have recently gone vegan and through a private medical practice in the state where i live that focus' only on wellness, hormones, nutrition and food allergies....i found i am highly allergic to casein(side product in dairy) and dairy....never an issue before but maybe with no colon? i have been following this strict vegan(no eggs, no dairy, no animal products ...nothing with potential hormones), for 30 days.....no major weight loss, that i was certainly hoping for, but it is process...i will try keep all posted!

I'm right there with you. Something they don't tell you about prior to surgery. I have asked doctors and can get no replies. I think the Cleveland Clinic owes it to us to inform us of what we can do to keep from all this weight gain. It's ridiculous. I never had to take a water pill once in my life and since I've had the surgery I have to take it every third or fourth day just to get rid of the water in my body. I don't even have blood pressure issues. Let me know if you hear of anything that might help and I'll do the same

137 lbs for 10 years, +/- 5 pounds at holidays. Total colectomy for colonic inertia. 2 years later, 40 pounds heavier. This isn't about eating too much. I fasted for three days and still gained 1 pound.
Something medically is going on!

Doctors offer no logic.

Next week I'm having bariatric surgery to reverse the weight gain and to prevent future weight gain.

What part of stomach, small intestines is the culprit and needs 'removal'?

I had a total abdominal colectomy in September 2015 and I have gained 30 lbs. I have tried everything to no avail. I am hungry often and I think it might be related to the fact that I am in the bathroom immediately after eating anything. It's incomprehensible that I am overweight with the amount of time I spend in the bathroom. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Anyone have success with probiotics or prebiotics? Please give specific details about dosing and brands. Thanks!

Hi
I am a 45 year old female, i had a total colectomy in 2011 and have had the same experience of massive weight gain. 5 months ago I stumbled across an weight loss program which has turned my life around. My doctor is so happy she has told me to never stop. I have lost 19 kg and feel fantastic. This way of eating really suits my bowel issues which are almost gone. I used to have diarrhea 20 times a day now only about 5 times. I am happy to share info on the program if anyone is interested. It is definitely worth looking into
