Last weekend I’ve been with some friends at the county side. I’ve noticed that one of the girls was taking some pills called Ciprofloxacin. I don’t know what are for. I asked some people around the house but they didn’t know either. She was taking Ciprofloxacin pills every 12 hours, as I noticed. What is Ciprofloxacin? Why is all that secrecy about the drug?

It is possible that she was on Ciprofloxacin to treat MAC. The risk of intestinal infections may be reduced by taking preventive drugs such as norfloxacin, ciprofloxacin, and Bactrim. In some instances these drugs might actually worsen infection by disrupting normal intestinal bacteria. However, I have a friend who was on clarithromycin for MAC, along with ciprofloxacin. There is no big secret about what is ciprofloxacin.
