There is not much to tell, and i don't quite understand how a women of today does not know anything about this.
Conception means, pregnancy has occured. Conception is possible during a womens ovulation period which should begin about 14 days after the first day of her last period, tho it can be possible at any time.
As far as "how does it happen" An egg is fertilized by the male sperm and it occurs via inter course, in vitro, artificial insemination. %-)
