Inquiring minds want to know. If you were in a situation where you knew what was expected of you, but you didn't really want to do that which was expected because it wasn't really what you want, which would you choose?
Do what everyone wants you to do and fulfill expectations, or risk disappointing everyone to gain some sanity?

I think that varies depending on the situation. You do want your employer wants because it's nice to get paid and necessary. If you are independently wealthy you do it your way. If it's outside work where your financial life isn't involved you try to sell your ideas to the others and accept the fact that you don't get to have everything your way all the time.

I've faked one too many smiles and realized I just dont have it in me anymore. I don't purposely go out of my way to hurt someone's feelings, but if they can't like ME for who I am, then they need to get over it.
I also don't have the time or the energy to be a people pleasure all of the time.

I always do what is expected of me.
I shouldn't be like this, but normally, those that I am concerned about know better than I do about what is in my best interest. They think with the head regarding me, while my heart sometimes is working in overdrive.
I'm glad to have their opinions to keep me in line.

I've done what was expected of me for 25 years at work. And as a result, I've been f'd over so much, it's a miracle I don't have a social disease.
Do what makes you happy. Better to die on your feet than live on your knees.

When it comes to Mr Aire's work, often we will do what's expected--like attend a certain dinner or whatever.
Sometimes those things come at great cost.
I know he would do it for me, too, though.
But, in Gdawg's situation, I understand fully. So, this year I won't be attending my company's Christmas party even though it is expected of me.

I do what makes me happy up and until the point where it makes other people unhappy. Then I do what is expected of me so as to cause the least amount of unhappy feelings for everyone involved.
I love people and want to keep everyone happy! :)

I will do what is expected as long it is moral, legal and correct. Doing what I want could often be wrong.
example, I may want to beat someone bad but the expectation is to even treat the biggest d*****g with respect.
Most of the time I do what is expected. I am just a law and order, disciplined type guy.
Too many people whom do what they want end up causing a lot of pain to others.
