I've heard from many triathletes that they consider the swim to be the toughest part of the tri. TriBob, I think this may not be so in your case, but in general, would the RR triathletes agree?
What I really want to know is which part you consider to be the easiest. I, who have never done a tri and am not likely to, would think the bike would be the easiest. What say you?

Interesting question I can't wait to hear some of the replies. Maybe that is why the swim is first then.

Yes, a lot of people fear the swim the most. Perceived effort will be different for everyone. The run is usually the hardest because it is last.

When I thought of doing a tri many years ago, I was most worried about the swim. I am a great swimmer, but I was worried that I wouldn't get enough time in the water to have an effective race.
As for the difficulty, my 2 is that the swim would be the hardest, as it requires the whole body to move through the water, and the swim area is pretty congested

Which is the easiest?
I would say the bike. Given the right course, there are opportunities to coast downhill, if you need be.

looks like the nontri's are answering and my answers would be the same. swim hardest and bike easiest. where's tribob, dancer, happy?? My guess...having been a tri-groupie for years is that the actual athletes will say the complete opposite. swim is easiest, bike hardest, and race won on the run.

The swim is by far the easiest. Even in an IM is it the shortest and you are the freshest. The swim is a more a formality (or in my case a place to lose ground on the lead pack.) than anything else.
The bike is/can be difficult, but most people use the bike to get ready for the real challange, the run.
Every year, except this past of course, KONA is won on the run. Why, simple. People use all the energy and mental capacity on the bike. they hammer their legs into the ground and when the run comes, the fresher legs, or smarter person wins. I think it was Peter Reid who said, "Sometimes it comes down to who is smarter, not the most fit."
For other races, such as olympic and half IM's, I fiind the bike harder. It could be because I really hammer, but I find the leaders a few minutes ahead of me and I know the only way I'm gonna come close, is to drop the hammer on the bike, so for the shorter distances, the bike is the hardest.
The swim is always the easiest.

I would say for me the swim is the easiest for me to handle mainly because it's first and it usually takes the least amount of time. And it's the easiest to pee during.

I'm glad I was in front of you.
I also blew a snot rocket right on a guy riding behind me. That'll teach him not to draft off a girl.

Yuck! I thought it was illegal in triathon to draft. Is it? Snot rocket, eh? Hey, were you Miss America once?
