I think that a couple of gray hairs is not the cause for alarm.

The appearance of gray hairs may be the result of a child's genetically determined maturational schedule. So, you may follow your mom’s steps in turning grey but not necessarily.

Melanocytes are cells that live in the hair follicles and determine the hair colour. When their activity begins to slow down, we get gray hairs. There are some conditions that can change melanocyte-clock.

One of the most common conditions is vitamin B12 deficiency. It is highly unlike that a person will become B12 deficient as this vitamin is absorbed from animal foods. It is another story if you are a vegan.
Going gray can also be a result of an internal process. Doctors usually check vitamin B12 levels, blood counts and thyroid functions.
If these conditions are present for a short time, then a person may get a few gray hairs but if the condition persists, the graying may continue.

I also though that stress has something to do with premature graying but apparently this is not the case.

I was reading about it once in a magazine.

It said that a hair can’t change it’s colour once it had grown out and suddenly become gray. However, there are some conditions (hair loss conditions), I don’t remember their names, which can cause pigmented hair loss and these conditions may be triggered by stress. Even if this were true, the change of colour can’t happen overnight.

this definitelly didn't happen overnight... i noticed it myself before he did... unfotunatelly.
i was paying attention to its colour and one was completelly white (liuke grandma white!!!), and some are partly blond, partly whitish... like hair changed colour at a cerain stage of its growing ...
i am not paranoid, it just feels horrible having gray hair all of a sudden... actually it is not so bad, few white hair, ... it is just strange facing these changes... it is funny looking at your own hair and realizing it is actually white :-)

Premature graying in early 20s, white forelock, bright blue eyes. Diagnosis? Are there any genetic disorders, or genetic syndromes, that can include these signs?
