Why do some people feel it when their BG is high? I get high blood sugars and I don't know it until I take my glucose reading. I wish I could tell much more sooner so I can do something about it early on. It is frustrating not to be able to keep my sugars in line. I want to be able to control my diabetes so I don't end up with problems with my feet or my kidneys.

Signs of hyperglycemia can be very subtle and you won’t know until you check your blood sugar. Many diabetics will begin to sweat or become very fatigued. There are others who may have vision problems when their sugars are on the rise. Perhaps your blood sugars get high but not as high as some to the diabetics you know that feel their hyperglycemic episodes coming on. It can be in the 400s before they know something is up. So don’t feel bad that you don’t know when you are having one. It is more important that you are checking the BGs regularly if you are having them frequently. Do you take any medication yet for your diabetes?

I don’t feel like I get much for symptoms for hyperglycemia as much as I do for hypoglycemia. I feel a hypo come on like with no problem at all. I feel sick and lightheaded before I begin to get confused. I would need to have something to eat or drink like really quick. Orange juice or whatever I can get my hands on helps me out. I may also eat a small candy bar if I have one available. I don’t take insulin so for high blood sugars, I don’t know what I would do! I just have to watch my diet and hope for the best!
