What if I take my blood glucose levels less than two hours after a meal?  What does this tell me for sure?  I have BGs of up to 180 so I am a bit concerned about that.  What should it be reading, let's say in an hour's time?  What do I do about it if that is too high for an hour?  I don't know if I can cut any more carbs out of my meals.  So should I even be worried about the glucose readings anytime before the two hours is up?  I just want to make sure I am doing everything right.  My dad died of diabetes complications 7 years ago, and now that I am diagnosed with it, it scares me that I would have to go on dialysis treatments or have my toes cut off.  I just need to have some reassurance.  My bgs run about 98 fasting. and 118 two hours after meals are consumed.  If I am doing this, does this mean I will be ok?

Your blood sugars seem to be just fine according to what you have listed on your post.  You shouldn’t be too concerned with your blood sugars within the hour after you eat.  It is more important to know what your BG is after two hours.  This will let you know if your insulin is working appropriately.  If it is 180 or less after the two hours after your meal, you should be doing fine.  If it is higher, you will need to see what you can do to resolve this.  It could be that you need to eat 45 grams of carbs instead of 60 grams.  You may also want to add exercise to this part of the day.  Lastly, you may need to be on medicine if it habitually occurs on a regular basis.
