I had a total thyroidectomy 12-12-06, and I've gained 11lbs since then. I'm concerned that it is going to just keep adding on. I have to admit I needed to gain some weight back due to the hyperthyroidism prior to surgery, but I need some advice to help me maintain, or is the synthroid I'm taking not strong enough?

I had total thyroid removal over 25 years ago due to thyroid cancer. I have battled may symptoms since and I have yet to find any doctor who has been able to help. I suffer from inability to loose weight. (I work out 6 days a week and watch my caloric intake) I have gained as much as 7 pounds in one week. I find breads and pasta cause it the most so I have completely given them up.
I suffer from dry-brittle and thinning hair, feeling of being cold all the time, dry skin, low sex drive, moodiness, constipation, dry skin, inability to concentrate, chronic chronic fatigue (that is one of the worse), and many more.
The only way I have ever been successful at weight loss is through prescribed diet medication. I workout to keep from weighing over 200 plus pounds, to keep my heart in good shape (I am on 250 mg of thyroid replacement hormone daily), and because I just enjoy working out. I have to be on a high dosage to help suppress any cancer cells. I have been both hyperthyroid and hypothyroid. I would much rather be hyperthyroid, as my weight problem was not an issue during that time.
I wish you luck and hope, one day, a doctor will find a solution to a medical condition so many people face.
