It is almost a year that I've been on Yasmin and it was one of the worst things in my life! The first two months I bled non stop (which killed my summer) and within the year I have gained 20 pounds. I feel bloated all the time, I have horrible mood swings and not to mention unbearable period cramps! My doctor prescribed me to take Yaz, and so I will begin to take it at the end of the month. I'm kind of nervous because I don't want to bleed for another 2 months straight due to the switching. It is supposed to be a lot better for me considering that I have went through horrible symptoms! :-(

I think it is most important to note that everyone's body is different...sounds to me like both Yaz and Yasmin are both excellent choices of B.C. but you just need to find which one works best for YOU!

I got put on Yaz at my 6 week check up after I had my son. I only gained about 30 lbs in pregnancy - and had about 10 more lbs left to lose at this point. 3 months later, I lost about 20 lbs! (10 lbs more than I 'needed' to) Yaz was wonderful for me. When I had about a 6 month insurance lag I got off the pill, and then was put on Yasmin. I swear this pill makes me feel like I am pregnant or something. I have gained about 7 -8 lbs in two months :-( and feel as if I am hungry all the time. I am tired, have EXTREME headaches (I've never really gotten headaches in my life), my face is ridiculously broken out, my PMS is out of control (pre and post) and I feel like I have a lot less patience.

Needless to say, i will be starting back on YAZ as of tomorrow. I am really hoping that it will help. Even with my insurance, it is 50.00 MORE a month than Yasmin - which SUCKS! But I don't mind paying fifty bucks for a happier life :-)

Hope this helps someone out!

I started with ortho try cyclin - (1 month: i became horribly emotional, bitter, hard to be around)
so i switched to yasmin - (9 months: not bad, but i wanted to try yaz..)
i was hoping that on yaz my periods would be shorter and i would loose some of the weight i had gained on yasmin. Instead, i seem to retain weight in my thighs and stomach and the periods are more or less the same length as they had been on yasmin. Not only do I think i was slightly happier on yasmin but i overall liked my body more, so i decided to switch back. My doctor also approves of my switch back to yasmin because yaz's lower dose of estrogen can apparently affect bone density in younger women.

someone earlier mentioned that finding your birth control is all about trial and error- and this could not be more true, just try to find a pill on which you feel comfortable.. good luck!

I've been on birth control since I was 16 (I'm now 23) for PCOS which causes very irregular periods. Some of the first I tried were Ortho tricyclin (however you spell it!) and Nordette. I hated Ortho because it made my acne really bad until I finally got on Accutane, which for those of you out there that bash it...I had HORRIBLE acne and after only 6 months on it I had clear skin and have not had acne since! I am so thankful for Accutane!!! Anyway, Nordette was wonderful but my doctor switched me to Yasmin later because it was supposed to be better. I really didn't notice any difference between Nordette and Yasmin. Well, in the past 6 months, my new doctor decided to put me on Yaz. All doctors seem to be prescribing it. Two of my other friends are on it as well. Since switching to Yaz, my periods are very irregular. I have spotting all but maybe 10-14 days a month. And worse, I've suddenly developed racooning of the eyes (brown circles around the eyes). It's VERY noticeable!!!! I'm about to start on Yasmin again because I hate what Yaz is doing to my skin and I hate the irregular periods. My other two friends are experiencing similar problems. One of them bled for 3 weeks straight and is terribly hormonal. I DO NOT recommend Yaz to anyone! It is so over-priced and doctors are pushing it for that reason!! It is not a better pill; just new.

I was on Yasmin for about 3-4 years and I really liked it. After I went off of Yasmin, I got pregnant (it was planned.) I had a miscarriage at 12 weeks, had a D&E, got an infection, had to be hospitalized and have another D&E. After 3 months of non-stop bleeding, I went back on the pill. I really wanted to go back on Yasmin but my doctor gave me Yaz because he had free samples of it and I wasn't planning to go back on it for long because we wanted to try again. I am having breakthrough bleeding still after being on Yaz for almost two months. I'm not sure if it is miscarriage related and my hormones are still all messed up or if it's the pill. I really wanted to go back on Yasmin from the beginning so that I could compare apples to apples, but now I don't know what is causing the spotting because I'm on something different. I'll be 29 soon and I want to get pregnant again so I don't think it's worth switching to Yasmin now but I'm pretty frustrated. I went on birth control to stop the bleeding and now it's starting up again. I also liked Yasmin because there was a generic available that only cost me about $8. Yazmin costs me $25. Still not horrible but I regret taking the free samples and going against my instinct to go back on the same pill that I was on before.

I've been on Yasmin for a few years now and just switched to Yaz. I see that it has 24 active pills vs the 21 active pills in Yasmin. I would like to know on what day should I expect my period. On yasmin my period started on day 25, the 4th day of inactive pills.

Hi there, if you've switched over, I think that your period would start right on Day 25 as far as I know, although I suppose that remains to be seen. I think your period starts at the same time though. Can you let me know if I'm wrong about that? Thanks!

After about 4 years on Yasmin I switched to Yaz. I don't know if it was just be but the switch was BAD. I was on it for almost 3 months then I just couldn't handle it anymore. Like someone else said it's a lower dose and knowing what I know now about stopping the pill altogether what I was experiencing could have been completely normal. When I stopped the pill I went through a period of time (about 3-4 months) that was horrible. I was so unhappy and it was only because my hormone levels were all screwed up, they do eventually level out so if you experience a depression I would call your doctor and see if it could possibly be because it's a lower dose and your body is adjusting. Hope I helped :-) Good luck!

Hey there healthnfitnessguy, thanks for your input. I just started my 1st pack of Yaz so it'll be a while before my period. If it happens as you suggest I will let you know..if not, I'll still let you know:D. Again thanks for your time.

I haven't heard much good about Yaz, and I'm sorry that you had such a hard experience with it! I can't believe it actually caused a depressive fit in you. Are you still on it or have you switched back to Yasmin?

I was on yasmin for about 4 years. For the first 2 months I had really heavy periods and REALLY bad cramps.I thought it was because of Polycysistic syndrom, but after reading a few other posts idk now. After the first 2 months everything was fine, so I thought. Yasman raised my colestoral and blood presher. It also mad my hair fall out!! I didnt know it at the time wile I was taking it though.

About the middle of last year I switched to the off brand cuz it was cheeper. After I started on it I was normal the first month but then on the second I started and didnt stop for a week......then I was really light/dischargeing for a month!! o.O

I stoped taking the pill and I stoped. I do not nor will I suggest anyone take this pill.

But everybody is diffrent. No women is the same. It may be someone elses perfect pill. But for me it was REALLY BAD!!

ILikeRainyDays, can you please answer my previous question about if you switched back to Yasmin? Is it any better than Yaz? I'd like to hear about your experience. Thanks!

I was on Yasmin for approximately 2 years before switching to Yaz. Last night, after 3 months of taking Yaz, I picked up my new pack of Yasmin. While every woman's body is different, I will never recommend Yaz to anyone. I strongly believe I suffer from PMDD, and while I have had no PMS symptoms on Yaz, the fact that I have bled for 3 weeks straight and have absolutely no sex drive (who would with all the non-stop bleeding) is enough to render the excitement over no PMS/PMDD symptoms worthless.

Some of the side effects I had on Yaz:

-Never ending appetite. I could not stop. I knew what I was doing was wrong, but it was like my mind couldn't understand that it had to stop eating. Needless to say, weight gain occured.

-Horrible headaches, some resulting in migraines so bad that I was home from work and sleeping for 20 hours. Thank god I live with my boyfriend because when the migraines happened, I couldn't tell you where my little dog was or if he had been let out or fed.

-No sex drive. At all. Partially due to the never ending bleeding. Partially due to the fact that my body felt so uncomfortable.

-Non-stop "breakthrough bleeding". To me, it was a never ending period.

-Pregnancy symptoms. I was so convinced I was pregnant, I took 3 tests because I couldn't believe they were negative. I had every single symptom of pregnancy. After starting my 3rd pack of Yaz, these symptoms finally went away. Unfortunately, I was left with non stop bleeding.

I am so excited to be back on Yasmin. I just want to feel like my old self again.

I hadn't heard about that many positive experiences with Yasmin so I'm glad that yours have gone better than most. I know it was much better than Yaz so I'm glad you're off it. How are you feeling now?

Hm, interesting.. I always thought my new headaches were
caused by extra stress, but I had no idea that Yaz might've
been a cause for it. I am actually on my 4th or 5th month of
Yaz, and my face did clear up nicely, however just this month
it broke out badly again.. for some reason.
Bad, bad headaches, out of no place what so ever! Also, I
don't know if any of you ladies had problems with yeast
infections with this pill, but this is just ridicilous! In my whole
28 yrs of life I only had 2 infections, and with this pill in the
past 5 mos, I had probably five or so! Right before my period,
about a week or so, I could choke my husband! I just cannot
stand being around him, and I have no good reason why!

I will try Yasmin, to see if it helps with infections and mood
swings, but as far as spotting and acne, Yaz did well.
However, it is not worth all these infecions!
