I was on Yasmin for 4 years with no problems. I switched to Yaz as the doctor suggested a lower dose pill might be a good idea. What a mistake.

Within a week I started to have absolutely terrible headaches when I've never suffered from headaches. I was unbelievably anxious for no reason and felt like I was going to have panic attacks. I had terrible stomach cramps, felt car sick when walking around and had dizzy spells. I had c**p skin and had no energy at all.

I started taking Yasmin again 3 days ago after having headaches for nearly a month. I didn't think it would make any difference because I figured the pills were the same just a slightly lower dose.

I can't explain the difference within a few days - I feel back to my old self again. I'm glad I looked at this website or I'd never have realised Yaz might have been the reason for me feeling so terrible.

I was on Yaz for a year and I had the opposite affect. I had recently gained a ton of weight unexpectedly (I had been 115 and went to 127 in about 6 months; it's a lot for me), and so I got on Yaz because one of my friends lost weight with it (and to be completely honest, I also heard it increased breast size). Well, my breasts didn't grow, but I lost 16 pounds in 3 months flat, without changing a thing! It was so odd... One of my other friends actually had to get off it because she kept losing weight rapidly (she went down to 96 pounds). It also made me incredible lethargic. I'm off the pill now, have been for a month, and my old weight is coming back. I'm thinking it's hormonal weight gain instead of unhealthy lifestyle weight gain. I'm hungry ALL the time now. Pretty sure Yaz suppressed my appetite, because I hardly ate anything. It's odd that that isn't a common side affect though... If I go back on BC I might try Yasmin instead (it's cheaper and I've heard good things). It's so hard to walk away from a miracle weight loss pill, even though I've been on BC for almost 8 years straight now and seriously need to be off it for awhile!!

I have had a great experience with Yaz, unlike many of the posters on here, so I'm starting to think that depending on your natural level of estrogen, different things work for different people.

accutane does dry out your skin, but only while youre on it. same thing with depression. i was on accutane and it really cleared me up. i definitely recommend it to anyone. however, if you suffer from any kind of depression, be extremely careful as this exemplifies it. i was on it twice and for the 5 months each time, i couldnt have sex at all because i just felt awful. if you can put up with this, its worth the results.

I just want to share a real incident with you all. One of my friend has been dealing with the depressive side effect of Yaz/Yazmin for almost 3 years. Recently she has noticed drastic changes in the last 6 months like severe migrane, depression, anxiety, forgetfulness, weight gain etc. Her condition enrages me and now I've decided to write against these dreaded drugs.
Will some of you help me with your experience that I can use as evidence in this case?

Amanda Clark: don't be ridiculous. People can have depressive incidents to do with any medications - from tylenol, to birth control, to natural health remedies. Simply because one person does not deal well with a medication isn't a good reason to sensationalize the 'evilness' of the drug.

Yaz and Yasmin both have side effects, but frankly most people don't get any. The people who do are the ones who seek answers and end up here, however as you can see from most of the posts, they've had good experiences as well.

As for a conspiracy of Docs prescribing Yaz over Yasmin.. I believe it has more to do with the lower dosages, which are supposed to reduce the risk of severe side effects. As I live in Canada (where there is no benefit for Docs to prescribe Yaz over Yasmin), yet my doctor still recommended Yaz... I figure a good percentage of doctors have never actually taken birth control (especially the male ones!) and so try to recommend drugs without first hand experience - based, likely, on informational pamphlets handed out by drug companies.

I was on Yaz for about 4 years and it was great for those 4 years. Shorter periods, better skin, I was in love with it. And my boobies got bigger too. However I did put a little bit of weight on. Until recently it has made me soooo depressed! I would cry everyday and I would break up with my boyfriend every week- atleast! It was terrible. I'm a happy and bubbly person but Yaz took that away from me! Recently coming off it I have lost a bit of weight and feel so much better, I'm back to my old self. However condoms are getting tideous and I'm thinking about trying Yasmine. Fingers crossed.

BS!!! Me, my son and several people in my family have been on isotretinoin (Accutane) and it was a god send! You have to have your blood work done, be on birth control (if female) and that's it. It is not horrible, in fact you have no side effect other than perhaps a bit of chapped lips and that's it! IT'S THE ONLY THING THAT CLEARS YOUR ACNE FOREVER!! I am not a doctor, I am not a pharmacist, I have no interest in people buying accutane I couldn't care less but don't scare people away from a medication that WORKS WELL. Too bad it didn't work for you but it doesn't mean it doesn't work for everybody else!!

I would definitely suggest not to go on yaz, I was on it for about 4-5 months and my doctor told me I needed to get off it as soon as possible. I was having bad side effects my left leg went numb gained weight, a lot of stuff went wrong. I went off the pill lost weight and felt back to my normal self. He said that pill could have really hurt me, I could have got sick so bad that it could lead to more serious problems, even heart failure. And now there's been tons of law suits against yaz. Which leads me to my question, I have been off birth control since 16 due to this terrifying issue. And I'm 20 now. I need to find one that will be good for me. Any suggestions?

Oh my goodness until I read your posts I thought my eyes were playing tricks on me. I have never had dark circles under my eyes and since starting Yaz three months ago, I have constant dark circles. Yes, my skin has cleared up, but I am depressed, always fatigued and damn those dark circles! I had no idea it could be from birth control, switching now, thank you!

Very few people experienced those side effects. I was on Accutane for half a year while taking Yasmin and I was fine. My face has completely cleared up. You just need to make sure you follow what the dermatologist tells you to do, as for the drying of the skin, I just used a regular water/glycerine based cream and it cleared it up.

But, I was on Yasmin and was just switched over to Yaz. I nearly died when I went to pay for my prescription and I'm not sure how this one will work for me, as I was on Yasmin for approximately three years. I guess I'll give these three months a go and if I notice any significant changes (weight gain, hair thinning, etc) then I'll go back and get my prescription for Yasmin.
