I recently decided to start birth control after I had my 2 kids. the docotr put me on sprintec. Well it was the generic monessa. and it made me extremely emotional. Im an emothional person anyways and it made it 10x worse. Of course before I started taking it they put me on progestron pills to help bring my period on. Cuz every since I had my son 19 months ago my periods have been irregular. extremely irreglar. I was on monessa for a month and the doc switched me to yasmin. I am suppose to start taking it sunday But I am having resevation on taking it or not. I have a lot of different things going on with me that I have to keep going to the gyn. So I am no entirely sure if it something that I want to try. everything that I have seen on here is people going back and forth on which one is better. But I guess It just has to do with your body.

hi there
you really scared me.. i was on yasmin for about one year, and then i took a break (that lasted a few months). Recently i went to my gyne and found out that i have a cyst on my left ovary. to treat it, she put me on yaz.. So, because i felt good with yasmin (no side effects, and my period was lasting 2-3 days), i asked her why is she giving me yaz insted of yasmin. she said that yaz is newer than yasmin and hers patients told her they are feeling better with yaz, and because yasmin gives side effects. off course she didn't convined me, so i checked on the net (-> and found this forum). I know every woman is different, but i don't know what to believe now..(about yaz and yasmin). i bought yaz today, and don't know what to do.. and yes, it's more expensive than yasmine... i'm tempted to give up on yaz (before i get started) and return to yasmine. the only thing keeping me from doing that, is the money i spent on yaz
there is something i don't understand: i have read your msgs and noticed that all the doctors prescribed yaz over yasmine (not one gave yasmin over yaz) and most of them insisted to change yasmin to yaz.. i can't understand why..
i have heard it is possible for the doctors to have signed contracts with the producer companies, and that is why they prescribe the ones that are more expensive. i am truey hoppeing this is not true, and they are not playing with our health.. i hope they prescribe yaz due to the 10mg lower dose of that hormone
i will probably take yaz this month and then return to yasmin..
pls excuse my english, i'm not enlgish nor american

Your English is fine, don't worry about it :) I'm really curious why they are switching from women from yasmin to Yaz as well but I've heard nothing good about either. I hope that it works for you. Will you keep us posted?

When I was younger I started taking Yazmin and loved it because i didnt get any nausea or any side effect people tried to scare me about. Then the doctor switched me over to Yaz.. I dont remember having any problems. I was off birth control for a year. Now I am back on Yaz and I was getting horrible migranes that would wake me up in the middle of the night and wouldn't let me sleep. Now that I read these postings I understand why I might have been having them. I couldn't go to a doctor because I dont have insurance anymore. So I'm glad I didn't go and pay out of pocket. I also notice that with Yaz sooooooooo much hair falls out. I cant stand it. I thought it was just me. I've also lost 8 lbs and every time I take a glance at food it makes me feel nauseous. Besides that, my face is clearer and my periods shorter with less cramps. But I don't like the weight loss part or my hair falling out. I think I'm gonna stop taking them.

hallo again!
Unfortunately it doesn't work for me.. i took the 8th pill today, and i seriousely thought about giving up on them. they cause me stupor, pins and needles in my both legs (my legs are also tumid), pain in my chest (i think it's my heart) and throat (it feels like my arterys are inflated) and a general condition of illness. i hope this is just my body acomodation period. i'll try for a few more days, and if the side effects will continue, i'll give up. i am a little afraid of what can happen if i stop takeing the pills (with my period especially)..
however, when i'll have to, i'll go back on yasmin
hopeing for the best...

Accutane does dry your skin out, that's the point. It slows oil production. It worked wonders on my acne when nothing else helped. There can be side effects, but that is why you need to be under a doctor's care to use it.

The birth control pill. Yaz, has been linked to life-threatening side effects such as strokes, blood clots, and heart attacks. Since 2004, at least 50 deaths have been reported in women taking Yaz and contraceptives made with similar ingredients. There is more information on this disturbing problem at

I've been on YAZ for a couple years now and I love it. I have shorter and lighter periods and my cramps have decreased significantly. I will admit that the first few weeks can be tough. I experienced severe migraines as well as blurred vision at times. My hands and arms also went numb a couple times and the doctor said that it was just my body adjusting to the hormones. I continued to take it and once I got through those few weeks I was fine. I really love it now and I haven't experienced any side effects since then.

I was on Yaz for three months, my doctor was giving me sample packs, well I went to buy it and it was REALLY expensive. So I researched and found yasmin, I actually ended up with Ocella, generic for Yasmin, been taking it a couple of weeks, I HATE IT.I had no side effects when I started Yaz, I loved it. Ocella I have all the side effects. I feel terrible. The price on Yaz is worth it for my health sake. I feel everyone is different with what their body needs. Some do well on Yasmin some on Yaz it just depends on your body.

i have also read while researching many people have missed their periods for a year taking Yaz. Plus one of the side effects says most of the women who takes the pill gets breast cancer

I was in Yasmin for 2 years. I still had modd issues, so thought I would quit..bad idea. After 6 months, I was begging for Yasmin. SO they gave me Ocella, the generic of Yasmine....for the first time I had side effects. On Yasmine, I had not side effects that bothered me enough to take into account. All I know is after years of riding the roller coaster of PMDD /Hairloss/body hair growth, I felt like the sun came back up on Yasmine.
My nurse changed me to Yaz in July. As I write this I about to switch back to Yasmine and the pharmarcy has lost my presciption..so I am cying!
On Yaz these were the side effects
1: Extensive, long as 3 weeks periods for the first few months '(to limit this I made sure I took it bet 8 and 9 am every morning
2: Heavy heavy bleeding with clots. Apparently the blood flow is not even supposed to clot since your body wants the memses to get out, but if the bleeding is too heavy your body reponds by clotting the blood in the uterus, so it comes out as GLOBS! I have never in my life had this kind of heavy flow before. I had blood tests done and I have anaemia, so currently taking iron therapy
3. Severe bloating, PAINFUL PAINFUL periods, never felt liek this since I first started menses at age 11...I feel like some is actively peeeling my uterus...tender stomach
4. I have so much gas, gas....it comes out of my moth ocnstanly. my stomach is extended and slight pressure is painful
5. First month or so I had heatburn , vomitted, ..I never get sick, so I had no clue what to do with heatburn, ..finallhy ended up with pepacid and gas x
6. The periods are SO painful that I have a jar of ibuprofen in my office , car and home..I have to take morning afternoon and night during my period. I am currently back to a 7 day period but still HEAVY flows than usual for me
7. The nail in coffin was this past month...scaitic nerve issues. I scream with pain!!. I had to sit at the airport for an extended period..mind you I travel from us to asia and african and never had this issue before. When I have gas coming out, its excruciating...going to the #2 is a horror in itself. I figure I am done with Yaz! I start a new month today and the pharmarcy still has
me on Yaz because the names are similar I guess.
8. I still have night sweats from when I was on nothing
9: Both Yaz and Yasmine have similar formulas. Yasmine has a higher level of ethinyl estradiol (10ug more than Yaz) . Gianvi is the same formulation as Yaz, execept in generics fillers are different. Ocella is supposed to be the same as Yasmine, but fillers are diferrent and I reacted differently on ocella. Yaz has 24 pils and Yasmine 21. Yaz is supposed to take care of the PMDD symtoms better.
10. My MIND is a lot cleared on YAZ but the side effects and physical effects are unhealthy and I have not been able to engage in excercise etc because of the symtoms. I will rather go on Yasmine and have no physical side effects and I will try to manage the remaining mood swings myself.
No ocella, no Gianvi , just plain old Yasmine!

I have been using Yaz since September 2010 and the only side effects i seemed to get was weight gain and constant migraines I am thinking of getting of as I'm getting migraines almost everyday. Also tried Diane 35 neverrrrr again. I was so sick only on the 1st week of being on it, that's when I switched to the very expensive Yaz.

The first pill I ever took was Yaz, and it was a bad first choice... The first month was ok, but as soon as it ended and that i got my periods, the bleeding never stopped, and it continued during two months non stop!!! (I took yaz for three months)
Then, I went to my doctor and he gave me Alesse... I'm on it since approximately 7 months now... At first it was ok( again), but then I got infections and my emotions strated to get wild... In the beginning it happened only the week before my periods but since two months I have this problem all the time: I keep crying for nothing, I hab a bad temper , etc...
I just come back from by doctor's office with a new prescription and i hope that Yasmin is going to be better for me!! (yn)
PS: there is a french b/c pill named "Diane" that really helps for acne!... TRUST ME, THIS one is classified in the pills for acne too.. it's probably WAY much better than yaz...
