Three months ago I had an endometreal ablation and got my tubes tied as well. The first month after have this done I felt great.Until I got closer to getting my period.I started to get very fatigued, moody, abdominal pain in left side I am forgeting everything. This month when I got my period I had the same problem. The fatigue is horrible when I start to feel tired I have to go to sleep cannot keep my eyes open at all.I have the fatigue constantly and moody all the time. I had my doctor tested my thyroid it all came up fine. I was baffled!!! I don't know what to do now or what test to ask for because my doctor doesn't think it is from this operation he thinks it's irritable bowel syndrome when nothing is wrong with my bowels |

| I'm in the same position as you, i had my tubes done in 1999 and since then i've been in excruciating pain most of the time, mostly on my left side as well. Yesterday, i had a pap done and my doctor also said irritable bowel syndrome, but isn't it funny how the pain starts after a woman's tubes are done. Doctor's have told me my bowels, hormones, and even endemetriosis. I just want to know what is really going on and get the proper diagnosis, and to know if getting my tubes done had caused all this pain for 8 years. |

Take a look at my history and see if it sounds anything like yours. My doc is saying the same thing too...could be irritable bowl, or a nerve or adhesions. Whatever! Why is it cyclical then? Wouldn't irritable bowl bother me all month. An why always on my left side...every time! I psted all my symptoms on another thread, but will post hem here for you and see if they sound familiar. I am so desperate and I have always loved my doc...but I think he is ignoring the facts on this one!
My history:
Age 42 mother of 2
*April 2005-tubal ligation and uterine ablation for heavy bleeding(lifelong problem)
*April-November 2005-Little bleeding, becoming heavier over each month
*November 2005-Admittance into ER following 3 days of debilitating lower left pelvic pain. Pain stops that evening and diganosis by ER doc and personal doc after ultrasound is ovarian cyst.
*December 2005-April 2006-Pain returns and worsens every month until doc discovers scar tissue in uterus from ablaation. Performs outpatient surgery on uterus removing tissue.
*May 2006 to present- Pain continues to worsen monthly with the following cycle....severe left unilateral pain 12 hrs>pain stops>period starts>bleed for 2-3 days>bleeding stops>pain starts again>12 hrs>pain stops>bleeding starts....this can go on for 6 to 12 days.
Always as soon as pain stops old brown/fresh red blood starts. Always the same cycle every month.
So I summarized with my doc and showed him articles I found about PTLS and although he was open about it, he along with many other docs does not believe it happens. Insists that he and many other surgeons have performed many TLs and that they just don't see women with the problems that would be associated with the numbers of ligations they perform every year.
Our next step is for me to be at the radiology office while the pain is happening in order to see if the tube is swollen and or blood/fluid filled during the pain. He has suggested a nerve issue and continues to think cysts. The fact that it is cyclical and completely unilateral gave him pause though. Women who have cysts generally experience change from side to side.
I cannot help, but in my gut(literally), see the correlation between pain cessation and onset of blood. Over and over again.
I feel very lucky that I have not experienced the range of symptoms that many women on here have suffered. I have been moodier and gained 30 pounds in the last 9 months, but pain is all that is on my mind at this point. I'll deal with other issues later.
I posted this for two reasons...1. I want any women with the same symptoms to know that I'm right there with you and I hope this helps! 2. I would like to know if anyone has received treatment such as a salpingectomy as opposed to hysterectamy for treatment of this?
Thanks for any help! |

| Wow, I am experiencing many of these symptoms as well. I had a ligation in 2000 and since then I have had incredibly intense periods. I am soaking through a super plus tampon in an hour for the first two days of my period. The pain in my stomach is always incredibly painful as well. I have had fatigue, stomach tenderness, and depression since this as well. I am considering a reversal, just worried about the cost. I am only 35 and I do not want to live being this uncomfortable, so I need to fix it! |

| my problems sound so much like yours..but added to my situation is urinary I kept getting urinary track infections my tubal was December of 2000. I still am having pain numbness some times i wet myself with out knowing until its to late.my bladder seems to hurt alot,, i do know the difference in my bladder and my bowles but my doctor says the same thing and i had a second opinion,, they all seem to blow it off as irritable bowel syndrom,,, there has to be more to this,,, i never did this before, also it constantly hurts inside mine does switch sides from time to time but mostly on my left side that hurts the most, and there is always a tightness in my sides right where your tubes would be,,,,,I wish that some one would investigate this further,,, a majority of women complaining with the same issues ,,,there has to be some kind of something going on,,, |

| Quote: | | I too am having all of the symptoms that you all are having. I actually just saw my doctor for the 2nd time yesterday and am having an ultra sound today. They are telling me that I have built up scar tissue from the tubal and may need to do surgery to remove. I had my surgery done in April of 2005 and my cycles have been horrible each month. It seems to be getting worse. My moods have been horrible and I too am very fatigued around that time of the month. The pain is horrible and I never before had bad pms prior to the ligation. We will see if they diagnose me with irratiable bowl syndrome. | |

| As I have sat here and read this, tears are streaming down my face. It feels so good to know that someone else is going through this. I had a uterian ablation w/ a tubal in January of 2003. Having horrible periods throughout my life, esp. after my twins were born in 2001, my dr. recommended this option to me. I felt that I had nothing left to do esp. since my periods were then lasting 20 days. I had the surgery and felt great the first few weeks. That was the beginning of the end. Every month around my cycle I am so tired that I can't get out of bed (almost like the flu), the pain and PMS symptoms are so intense that it almost becomes unbearable (never had a drop of PMS before the surgery). I am suffering from depression for the first time in my life which I finally have control over through the help of Paxil. I feel that I have lost a part of myself that I will never get back until I read this board! My doctor told me it was impossible that these symptoms could occur from this procedure, I had just about decided it was all in my head. Please give advice as to what you have done and if you have found anything that helps! |

| hello..wow I had my tubal in 1999 at the age of 19 after my second child was born. the first few months were fine but i started niticing that I was getting intense pain on my left side about 3 days before my period was about to start and lasted alll through my period. I ended up at the hospital because I could not stand the pain was so bad.( I have high pain tolorance no drugs during labour and this brought me to my knees) They told me that it was probably gal stones which it was so i had my gal blader removed. but this did not stop the pain it was not as serious but still very painfull. So i returned to the doc and he told me that i probably had kidney stone I didn't so thaen I got tested for every thing under the sun including diabeties thyroid and all came up clean. so now he is trying to tell me that i have irritable bowel syndrome, I have never had a problem in that area not now not ever. All of my symptoms are similar to every one elses I am severly deoressed all of the time (on Prozac) very tiered I can barley get the motivation, to goet the motivation to get out of bed. My doctor even whent as far to tell me that I had bi-polor syndrome even thought here is no family history if it. When I suggested thet it may be from the tubal he totaly dismissed me and kinda laughed at me and said that that was impossible.so i am so glad to see that this is not all in my head and now i can acctually have a descution with my doctor. |

| I too have experienced horrible pain and extremely heavy bleeding lasting 7-10 days every month. Prior to my tubal (preformed in sept. 2004) my periods lasted 3-5 days and I had no pain, I am 25 and the mother of two. I had a horrible history with birth control (including rapid weight gain, miscarrige and not being able to get pregnant for 3 years after the miscarriage) and no desire to have more children so I got the tubal. My doc never told me of the possibility of these side effects, or I never would have done it. I start about a week before my period with pms (never had before) I feel crazy, cannot control my emotions at all, then the pain in lower left abdomine starts. I get a thick whitish discharge which turns brownish about 2 days before the extremely heavy bleeding begins. I have not heard anyone else mention it but I also get enormus blood clots some as big as a grape for example. I bleed very heavily for 2 days then it stops for a day, then I bleed medium to light flow for however long it decides to last, meanwhile the pain continues along with sever migraines and extreme fatigue as well. I think this is something that shouls be looked into and studied by the medical profession, at least they should mention this possibility to all women considering the procedure because it alters your life in a way I never would have imagined before doing this. I should also mention that my sister who had her tubal about a year after me is having very similar problems, which she too never had before this. This is the only surgery I have ever had, the only change ever made in my body was this tubal it has to be what is causing this there is no other explination, I had both of my children vaginally so C-section is not even a possible cause. Unfortunatley I am in a situtation where I do not have medical insurance (I had medicade during my pregnancy) so I haven't been able to see a doctor about my problems. I am glad, not for your pain and suffering, but that I am not the only one having these problems, at least we all know its not in our heads. |
