I sleep upright every night. I don't sleep well because of it but it helps to not have a stomach ache. I don't have celiac disease nor do I have a lactose intolerance.

I can go to bed hungry and have a stomach ache just as often as if I ate 3 hours before lying down.

My stomach aches can debilitate me all day. I've suffered from these aches all my life and am tired to say the least. Has anyone talked to their doc about getting their stomach removed? SERIOUSLY! I'm desperate and just wanna lye down when I want without getting a stomach ache!

I don't have celiac, but nearly my entire life I experience the tremendous bloating and gas pain if I lie down for any period of time in the afternoon. I'm experiencing it right now and am so annoyed that I decided to google it. Have you gotten any answers?

Guys its because when you take a nap right after you eat your body doesn't get the chance to start digesting the food so it gets impacted in one spot and gas begins to form. Then when u wake up your stomach hurts because the food shifts all at once and your bloated because of the gas. You have to stay up a couple of hours after you eat a meal.

This is great info....and I also have never been able to belch, ever. I really think this has some connection. Thanks!

Count me in...I've had this happen as long as I can remember. It only happens to me if I lie down or even recline during the day. I'm fine until I get up, then immediately there is pain below my sternum like a cramp. It almost seems like I can't stand up straight. I will often go for a walk, but after all the years of noticing this it seems the only thing I can do is wait it out. I know within 2 hours it will clear out with a wind that often seems like air more than gas.

I can feel the pain and pressure slowly move from under sternum to lower ab, which bloats like I'm pregnant, then I know it's time to "assume the position"! I try to get lower ab upward as much as possible while bending over my knees, similar to Child's Pose in yoga, but with rear end raised high and chest flat to the bed...essentially to reverse the gravity. I stay there and relax a few minutes, sometimes I can feel the air shifting upward. It works like a charm for me and I conduct my personal philharmonic...either as I am in this position or within 10-20 min after getting up.

I've never noticed any connection to what I eat. Sometimes it happens when I've eaten very little, or not at all. I just try to NEVER lie down during the day. This does not happen during night sleeping, but I thinks it's best not to eat soon before bed in general.

One last thing...I have never been able to belch like most people. I don't belch, ever! When I was a child a friend tried to teach me and I could not make it happen! I wonder if there is a connection. Is anyone else a non-belcher?

Wow, again happy to see people feel for me. If I eat and lie down or even just a semi laying down position, I am fine white I am relaxing, but within ten minutes of getting up I start experiencing painful gas and bloating, I am often so distended I feel like j could explode, but there is no movement, I feel like I need to burp or fart, but it just won't come, this lasts an hour to three hours, it's horrible. I know it's not okay to eat and lay down, but never being able to do it sucks, sometimes by the time I start farting my gas is so stinky. I don't ever want to go on dates or anything, it's s miserable way to live, anyway, have no idea what's causing it or how to stop it, I tried gas x and all that, it deosnt gelp

Hi all, I've been following this thread for a while because I've had this problem for years. I wanted to let everyone know what has finally worked for me. I have been taking Schiff anti-gas probiotics since October and I am a new person! I cannot recommend them enough! I even wrote to the company because they have changed my life.

So much sickness and disease originates in your gut and having the proper and beneficial bacteria in there is vital. I have an alarm on my phone to remind me and I have not missed a day in almost 3 months. In fact, I just awoke from a nap in the middle of the day and feel fine!!

Previously, I could not lay down for even five minutes without getting painful gas pains and gas. I would have to lay on a shiatsu massager under my tummy for an hour before I felt better .

The probiotics combined with activity, even a small walk during the day, has helped me like absolutely nothing else has! Try it! I bought mine on Amazon . Schiff Digestive advantage gas defense formula probiotics !

Btw, I did go to my doctor and had every test under the sun done. Celiac, IBS, pre-cancer screening, every thing you can imagine and all my blood work came back normal. Many doctors don't prescribe a probiotics. I don't know why.

This sounds exactly like me. Its terrible having to live like this. I tried xifaxan for 2 weeks and it seemed to work for a little while but then my symptoms came back. Ive noticed that as long as I stand up or sit up straight throughout the day, my stomach will be fine. Once I recline or lay down for a bit, thats when my bloating comes. Very frustrating

I have the exact same thing
If I lay down shortly after eating
I am in horrific pain. Literally doubled over
If I drink hot water and place a heat pad on my stomach it usually goes away. Really wish I knew what it was

Hi Matt. I will try this. I have been having the pains for over 15 years. I don't feel that they are food related, but only manifest if I lay down for while. If I lay down for over an hour, there is no pain. I recently had an endoscopy and colonoscopy that were normal except for the dr saying I may have Median arcuate ligament syndrome results from compression of the celiac artery by the median arcuate ligament. Is this what you are talking about will be helped by the stretch?

I'm sorry to hear that, but please use proper grammar and spelling next time, you seemed like a barbaric child messing with everyone with that ghastly spelling, thank you of you have read this.

This is crazy and awful that so many of us have the exact same thing but with no diagnosis. Since I was in my early teens I have had these symptoms. It happens even if I dont eat. If i lay down during the day, almost every time, when I get back up I start to bloat like crazy and double over in pain. I have read that some of you cannot burp. I also cannot burp. I wonder if this is related? Going to a specialist on the 12th. Ive also cut out gluten as I have had other additional issues. This helped my other issues but not the bloating issues. If I get answers I will reply.
