I have seen 3 doctors over the past 3-4 weeks regarding the severe abdominal pains I have been experiencing. Pain is under front right rib area, & moves to back, also in lower abdominal area.

It is less severe when standing. Its painful when sitting, & almost unbearable when laid.

Despite blood tests & taking various pills & painkillers prescribed, the pain remains & is getting worse.

I am not sleeping, and I am understandably concerned.

Most recently it was suggested a scan would be necessary. I am awaiting a date for this scan - & what type of scan I'm unsure.

With the pain getting worse daily I spent over 3 hours at local A & E. They did a blood & urine test which they said showed fine.

Abdominal pains can be attributed to a number of things - too many to count really. Your doctors are doing the right thing by exploring different options. They've started with the most common candidates and will work forward from there.

Your abdominal area is packed solid with numerous organs that are constantly in use. A problem with one thing, may cause pain in a completely unrelated area. This makes abdominal pains somewhat difficult to diagnose.

Best thing to do at this point is help the doctors with some self exploration. Next time you feel that pain - press into the area the pain is coming from and see if it worsens. If it does, then the pain is likely coming from that area. If not - it could be radiating from somewhere else. Either way, write down what you observed and take those observations with you to your next appointment. The more information you can provide to your physicians - the faster they can rule out certain things and explore for others.

If you haven't had an ultra sound yet - either expect it to be ordered, or suggest it. Ask if there is a possibility of an ovarian cyst (which can cause radiating pains) (and only if you're a female of course). Cysts are usually nothing to worry about - but important to know about and watch for development. If they do grow too large, they can lead to pretty severe pain and have to be removed.

Another thing you may want to look at is the type of pain killers and how they affect the pain. Are you taking anti-inflamatories or general pain meds? If you haven't tried anti-inflamatories yet - grab some Ibuprofen from the pharmacy and see if that helps (make sure it doesn't interfere with your current meds - the pharmacist can help you with that).

Hope this helps and hope you're feeling better soon. Doesn't sound like a very nice experience.
