To answer the question about short or tall air cast; I started with a tall one, then wondered aloud to my doctor if I couldn't just use a shorter one and she didn't even hesitate in agreeing it would be fine. Mine rises to about 9 or 10 inches from the bottom of my heel and is ALOT more comfortable than a tall one. My ortho works on a LisFranc about once a month, so is (I think) moderately experienced in them compared to other orthos.
Re: weight bearing; I was not allowed to put my foot on the ground until March 1st, 2007. which was three months after surgery, then progressive weight bearing for about two weeks, then on with a hard-soled shoe and away I went...
Last week I got the four screws out (well, three and a half since one was broken). Six month mark which was sooner than the doc had been planning. I am still only touch weight bearing while the incisions heal, but it ALREADY feels so much better not having the screws in!
