I was diagnose with V-Fib and was put on Lidocaine. My condition improved quite fast and I had no more health problems regarding my V-Fib. Now my doctor wants to put me on Amiodarone. I would not object in some other case, but I can not see the reason for switching if patient is in good condition. What do you think about this matter and Amiodarone vs Lidocaine in V-Fib?
I think that those switching is more related to health insurance politics than with your health. Some pharmaceutical companies are giving big donations to health insurance in order to increase selling of their own products. I have no professional knowledge about V-Fib and dugs you mention, but I know for sure that Amiodaron is much more expensive.
Well, when looking at various studies Amiodarone is much more effective and alot easier to administer. Sure for many years it has be personal preference between the 2. And btw ted... if you "have no professional knowledge" of the drugs or the critical heart rhythm they are designed to treat... how can you know it is more expensive and only politics?
Okay so your condition is v fib?? That's not possible v fib is a life threatening arrhythmia where the heart no longer contracts just flutters not able to circulate blood. IF you had V fib and survived then that makes more sense. Your doctor will be switching you due to a variety of reasons, lidocaine is an anti arrhythmia medication but is also an anesthetic while amiodarone is not an anesthetic. He/she may want to keep switching you due to the fact that both medications have side effects and he may not want your heart to become dependent on them or you to be on them long enough that it does. Be more clear though about your condition because if you were in v fib right now you'd be on the floor unconscious with a matter of minutes to bring you back to full bodily control....
