Is there anyone who had experience spinal meningitis-that is how my 15 year old son has been diagnosed yesterday? He is hospitalized now and all I now is that he has some bacterial meningitis –I have heard of that illness of course but I never thought it could affect the spine so is there anyone who had experience with spinal meningitis to tell me how serious and how effective treatable is this spinal meningitis condition is?

Whenever it comes to the bacterial meningitis the prognoses are not always the best but yet it all depends on what stage of meningitis your son were diagnosed and hospitalized. I had meningitis when I was young and it was viral one so everything went pretty much ok and I pretty soon after the antibiotic therapy I felt perfect. But having the bacterial meningitis that has developed in spinal meningitis is not treatable that easy so anyway I think that back there in the hospital your son would be having some spinal cord sample testing just to determine what bacteria have caused him this condition. Anyway he is now hospitalized and is probably in good hands for the doc would probably be treating him by some intravenous antibiotic therapy which could include also some antibiotic cocktail all depends on the severity of the meningitis. Practically being diagnosed with spinal meningitis means practically that the bacteria that have caused the brain cells inflammation has actually spread into the spinal cord which could create more complicated condition such as permanent brain damage and even paralysis.

Well i too have had meningitis. I was only a week, but i had spinal, they told my family that there was a HUGE chance i wouldn't make it, and if i did I would MORE than likely be mentally challenged, adn here i am 19 years old going to college, graduated high school, no type of "special" classes or anything, i did fine! i'm so proud of myself even though i was just a kid, i'm so happy to know that i had that challenge in my life, now i look back and see i am a strong person. I'm so sorry to read about your son, i hope all is well with him, and hope he can pull through, i will tell you i no its hard, and its only gonna get harder, but it will get better. I shall keep your son in my prayers, and i hope he is okay. And for you mom, be strong give him hope, faith, love. Let him no it'll be okay and tell him how strong he is, that he will be okay. =)
