Well probably because the abscess always comes back...who knows anything anymore...it's all so confusing! Reguarding the TAP therapy, please be careful with that as it includes ciprofloxacin...a terrible, permanent injury causing antibiotic. Unfortunately, I have suffered levaquin toxicity 5 years ago. My life/health has never been the same since. Ciprofloxacin and levequin are in the same class called "quinolone" antiboitics....Please read up on it before you ever use these drugs in any form.

Maybe because abcsesses always come back...also, please be careful if you find someone who will use TAP therapy on you, as it contains a very dangerous and permanent injury causing antibiotic, ciprofloxacin. Levaquin and ciprofloxacin are in the same class of antibiotics called "quinolones". Please never take these drugs in any form! Research it and all the horrible problems it causes..... Hope to hear from you soon.

I had a root canal done, and about 8 years later it started causing me problems. It became infected and formed an abcess. So I had the apioectomy done. Healed great, but after a year and a half I had to get a retreatment, not a big deal, as it was mostly old scar tissue. This can take months, even 1-2 years to completely heal. It is worth it. Any properly educated dentist would not advise you to have the tooth extracted unless there is absolutely no way to save it. Extraction should be a very last resort to the issue. My procedure has proven to be successful and I couldn't be happier, and I am glad I didn't listen to a lot of the dentists who told me I should extract it right away. These are usually oral surgeons, who want to remove the tooth, not endodontists who are the dentists that specialize in these types of issues. And if money is a concern, you have options. I do not have insurance and I go to the local dental school for all my dental needs. It is better than any dentist officer have visited, and I have been going for years now. Mostly everything I have done is free or at a very reduced rate. It takes more time because it is students doing the work, but the professor is right there. The best of the best, in my opinion. I trust a professor helping a student more than a private office who may just convince you to get the most expensive procedure. Neither of them are going to make any monetary benefit, so they tell you what is the proper procedure you need. After you become a patient, it is super easy to get in and make appointments, and you don't have to wait weeks for an opening.

I have developed a very tender gum due to what the dentist thinks is a cracked bone under my root canal processed about 15 yrs. ago. The periodontist recommended implant due to my short root on that tooth. I feel the same way you do, I would rather take the chance with a epico first before having the implant, especially if it is a crack that can be repaired.

The cost of all your above procedures has already exceeded the cost of extraction and implant/implant crown. Remove the bad tooth and replace it with an implant asap. Stop your suffering

I agree 100 percent. Losing a tooth is part of your body. Saving a tooth also prevents bone loss and
a thin sunken face.

250 for root canal at Harvard Dental. It includes apiceptomy is you need it later. It includes any complications you have. Since you have to go at least twice for root canal, you can make payments towards. Most likely a faculty member is there to finish the surgery. The students are graduates doing their specialty

I'm a Dental Hygienist and in my professional view about half fail over time, if not more.

It seems there are a lot of negatives about the procedure. My apicoectomy saved a tooth that was going to be pulled. The tooth had had root canal treatment but the endodontist had missed one root, When the tooth became infected, I eventually ended up at an oral surgeon. Another endodonist had told him to extract the tooth but the surgeon said it could be saved. It was painful (through the gum) but it worked. The tooth has been fine since 1973!

Alex, you are soo helpful with this message. I have a consult for an Apico tomorrow. You've helped me to realize exactly what I have to deal with. It sounds like the only way to go is to get that tooth pulled and do the preparation for implant. I had no idea about that process of preparing for implant. Without your information, it might have cost me thousands of dollars and much more pain. Thanks again, Donna
