My boyfriend has occasional arrhythmias, but he refuses to see a cardiologist. His dad is heat disease suffers and I am worried that he might inherit that. He said that everyone has it and that is common. How common are they?

About 5% of the population in the USA has arrhythmias. The most common disorders are atrial fibrillation and flutter and the incidence approaches 30% following open heart surgery. It really depends what he feels. Some people describe an arrhythmia as a palpitation or fluttering sensation in the chest. For some a skipped beat might be sensed, also a "racing" heart is another description. Proper diagnosis of arrhythmias requires an electrocardiogram.
