My daughter also shakes head head in a NO
Way and has since 8mths old this became a concern for me as she stopped doing all the things she should as an 8month old then by 12mths with health nurse saying it's jut a phase or comfort thing but then I pushed it as her development starting delaying and at 12months old I mentally had a 6month old long story short we seen a Peaditrition who did test on her and it turns out she at the moment is the only child in the world database with a partial duplication of the 10 chromosone so at this point we dnt know until we get our results from our own genetic test but it pays to push things if you as a parent feel it's not quiet right but I love my daughter no matter her delays or what future development arise it's now my job to get her where she needs to be :-)

I have tourettes syndrome and onset is usually not until 7-8 years of age. There is also no cure for tourettes but I would rest easy since this seems to be pretty common. My son who is 7 mo just started shaking his head and my husband asked me about TS also and I gave him the same reply. And no one is more worried about TS than I am. Hope this helped.

First off these sites are a trap for non-experts to spread speculation which generates fear. If ever you have a concern visit more manage sites like Web MD or even huggies. Truth is baby shake their head for many reasons. A new trick, to get a response, and more often to deal with normal baby pains like cutting teeth especially when trying to comfortable for sleeping. Other pains not related to teeth could be an ear infection or sinus congestion if there has been an illness. In general this is normal baby behavior.

Has anyone ever received a diagnosis? Is your child still doing the head shake? My daughter started at about 10 months and it would occur only slightly and seldom, but she is now 2 and if she is not in movement (playing or walking) or if she is in focus (looking at something) she shakes her head. she has had mri, ct scans, xray, yet no answers. I do not believe it "behavioral" and that she will outgrow it.

my 5 1/2 month old son does it when he is sleepy and when he is excited - usually to music or when i thought he was just trying to be cute. Lol. i'm not worried about it now seeing that it is so common, just dont recall my 5 year old son doing it.. instead he flapped his hands when excited about something.

My son started shaking his head to down just 2 weeks ago.
We were very worried and took him to ER. No seizure! and every thing was normal.
Next day he started and we took him to ER and insisted to take detail exam and EEG. Again everything was normal.
Now we have appointment for tomorrow to take 24 hours EEG based on a neurologist recommendation as his mom and I are so worry.
It is worth to note that the neurologist said he is normal boy with normal activity. He mentioned this behavior might be of his teething or reflux! (Sandifer Syndrome).
I googled it and found videos that those baby do similar head shaking like my baby.
I hope this could be the reason for his shaking his head.
I'll post the result soon after full EEG. Pray for us!
Thank You

My daughter is 6 months old and she's been doing this since about 3 months after coming home from being in the hospital with RSV and phnemonia. With this she was on many medications to stay sedated. Morphine included. I can't even count the amount of medications that were being pumped into her little body. I'm worried that's why she shakes her head back and fourth quickly. She only does it when she's laying down and a lot when she's sleeping. And she's only been doing it for the last three months. doctor tells me it's normal.... She shakes her head so quickly I'm afraid she's going to hurt herself.
