the other morning while putting on my deodorant, there was a big pain coming from a ball-like something underneath the skin of my armpit. now the skin is turning red and it hurts like crazy when i touch it. does anybody know what this could be and how i could get rid of it? do i need to go to a doctor?

My fiancee has the same problem. Normally it happens from using white powder (solid stick) deodorant and it also happens more often when it's really hot and she gets a rash in her arm pits.
If it's a swollen knot that isn't bigger than your fingernail on your pinky it might be a swollen gland, more likely a swollen sweat gland.
If there is any white looking stuff coming out of it and it doesn't have a foul odor to it, foul being something than just natural body odor, it could be that deodorant has clogged your gland and just needs to be squeezed out and cleaned with Peroxide or rubbing alcohol.
If this is the case then you need to try to stop using solid powder deodorant and try to use gel deodorant.
It's also possible that it could be a cyst or some other kind of infection.
If it doesn't go away or starts hurting worse in the next week or so I would go to the doctor to get them to look at it just in case it is something worse than a clogged gland.
Hopefully, it's just a matter of using the wrong kind of deodorant.
My fiancee didn't have this problem until she was in her mid 20's so it could just be a new problem that you've developed.
I hope this has helped you some.
Best wishes! :-)
