I am a healthy 32 year old female and I do not smoke or drink. I have been experiencing intermitten pain in my left ear/ and base of tongue for the last 2 months. My GP checked my ear and there was no infection noted. He is sending me to an ENT, but I am a little nervous. As I think back, I ate some potato chips and felt like I scratched that area and then the next day or so I started having pain, but it comes and goes. Everything on the internet says CANCER! I have absolutely no trouble breathing or swallowing and I don't feel sick at all.... Please give me some information. My appointment isn't for another 2 weeks. Thanks.

Hello there. I think it’s really nothing going on but you don’t miss going to ENT, just in order to have it clear. When you have a throat cancer you would have different symptoms, such as white or dark red lumps in your throat, your neck and jaws would hurt but what you have is not even close to it. The pain you feel in the base of your tounge could be a consequence of eating something chilly or rough so it irritated your tongue, it once happened to me also when I was earing chips, I even couldn’t eat almost anything firm for the next few days, it just passed on its own, but if the condition worsens you go see the doctor straight away, but I strongly believe you’ll be fine.
