i'm 44 and am waiting to go into hospital to get my tonsils out. The thing is im scared that the doctor has made the wrong diognosis because although i have had regular ear and throat infections and pus on and around my tonsils, they are not swollen that I can see and the hospital were a bit vague and said they couldn't think of anything else to do to stop these episodes of infections and tonsilitis.

HI there, even if the doctor made a wrong diagnosis, having your tonsils out is not detrimental to your body other than the recovery time. Is that what you were worried about?
