Question... is it possible for a female to cause a man to have a bacterial infection in his bladder? If so what is it and how does that work through intercourse? This is something his doctor told him had happened...?

Well it has to get in through your urethra so it would seem logical to get it from having sex.
My wife used to get them often, which is quite common since the female urethra is very short. I got one once, and the doctor figured I must have got it from her. I had to agree with him since I had not been sticking my penis into anything other than her vagina. And I sure as hell had not been sticking anything into it o.O I didn't even have a catheter shoved in there >;) until 20 years after that.
