When I was 21 I had all 5 toes broken and had rods put in to make them straight! The lengthening is a similar operation! Depending on how young you are and how healthy, bones regrow within about 6 weeks! You will NOT be able to wear regular shoes, and will have a walking cast on! IT will be painful - of course - but it will be just like having a broken bone - because that is what is basically happening! I had to have my foot raised at all times! And used crutches for the 1st 3 weeks, then I started walking on my heal more and more! But that was a "few" years ago, so what will be happening now is MUCH quicker, they get you up and moving right away! So be prepared for that! Will you be lengthening the bone yourself - with the turning of the bar? You WILL get used to the sensation - just like when someone has a severely broken leg and they have to stretch it out with weights! It's more of a throbbing pain - like a toothache, than an actually cutting pain! It's tolerable! Just remember everyone heals at different rates! So don't push it, but also don't become imobile either! Because then you run the risk of having muscle atrophy - frozen muscles - which is FAR worse than anything else you will be going through! Also it keeps the blood moving! So good luck and health! It will be all over soon!

So Bambi how long do you think that it would take you to get over it? As best I can tell with a lot of foot surgeries it's about 6 to 8 weeks to get over it so if I'm not missing my guess, that's where you were at? Let me know! I am curious to hear a little more!

Actually since new technologies and techniques even people with hip replacements - like my sister - are made to get up and start putting pressure on the operated area within 24 hours! So depending on what health the bones are in - as in if there are bunions etc - then it should take MAXIMUM 6 weeks to have the bones graft together! But if this person has to use the rotating screw lengthening system! It is not as painful actually! Just like people whom have neck surgery and knee surgery, have rods through their bones and have little pain! So the hopes are for a more pain free and faster recovery than what I went through! The only time I really hear of any problems lately is with bunion surgeries, and I truly believe it is because the toe - and thus the foot have been so deformend for so long! So when they do the surgery it takes the ENTIRE foot to become accustomed to the radical change!

How do you get an in-grown bone in your leg? It's hard and if I hit it, it will hurt badly. I just want to know can you get money for having an in-grown bone?

I don’t know how I got it, but a few years ago I noticed that a bone is sticking out of my toes. What should I do?
