I have Lupus and get Bacterial Vaginosis every time I have a flareup. The Dr. gave me a prescription for boric acid capsules and it gets rid of the problem in a matter of days.

I'm wondering if it is your body's allergic reaction to something? Or possibly birth control if you are using it? Just thoughts. I am about to try boric acid myself. Have had insane itching for about 8 months now, no discharge, but has been diagnosed as yeast 4 times by 4 different doctors. It's only slightly comforting that others are experiencing what seem like non-treatable or reoccurring infections, but makes me wonder and worry about how our pollution of our earth/foods may be affecting this. I got a blood test to rule out diabetes, as I know diabetics tend to be more prone to this sort of thing.

Years ago I had yeast infections; discovered it was because the man I was dating did not take daily showers (washed up between showers). Be sure your man is clean!

Hello,
I am at a loss, scared and depressed .... I was recently diagnosed with candida glabrata after a round of antibotics for a sinus infection ( too strong of dose in my opinon) I had the same thing happen 10 years ago after Cipro you would think I would have learned.. But anyway here I am again. I started with burning in my mouth and have geographic tongue just like before, then went to gyno because I had very little discharge and burning (normal symptoms for glabrata) I was so upset when culture came back 3+ candida glabrata. I immediatley stopped eating all sugars, gluten, yeasts and started probotics and drinking keifer.... To back up a little, I was prescribed Ketoconozole for 10 days orally because diflucan doesnt touch glabrata. Then I did two internal treatments of butonconozle 2% cream. I still felt like I wasnt normal so I called the Gyno again to see if she will reculture and she said to try 14 days of boric acid 600 mg each night...so I did 7 nights, then had to stop due to irritation I felt was happening. I didnt feel the burn until today, 4 days off boric, and my Gyno will not reculture for 3 weeks..I guess to give it a chance to grow back enough to see it..I dont know??...so I am using Crisco to help soothe the area and trying to remain calm. I am thinking of trying coconut oil around the are too (which I cook with anyway for antifungal purposes) I am reading and reading so much on glabrata and researching about diets and alkaline/acid bodies...I am driving myself nuts honestly...in 3 weeks I have lost 18 pounds....I would really like to connect with some people that understand me and we can give support.. I feel so frustrated and alone, 3 Drs just look at me like I am crazy adn prescribe Diflucan...research shows it is resisitant to this drug...oh and the one thing they did call me in to be compounded that will kill glabrata at 99% rate was $3000.00 !! yes $3000.00....any help or advise is greatly appreciated.

Hello ladies -
I dealt with the same problem for years, and I would like to suggest that women with repeat yeast infections look into the symptoms of Celiac Disease and see if other symptoms apply to you. If so, I encourage you to be tested. I had the repeat yeast infections for years, was repeatedly prescribed diflucan which never worked, and thanks to online, I found boric acid - which does work. But I was also having some other strange issues - thrush, anemia, fatigue, arthritis, skin rash similar to eczema and finally discovered it was Celiac Disease. Much better now that I've cut out the gluten.

~ IF YOU HAV BV READ THIS ! ~
BORIC ACID will work but DO NOT TAKE IT ORALLY!
ONLY ~INSERT~ Boric Acid into the vagina !
Boric Acid has been used for years .. for many things. One thing is to kill roaches, yes, the bugs. But it is also used for eye washes, wound cleanser, etc. Is is safe to use topically (and this includes inserting into the vagina) but eat enough orally and it can poison you. But then, so can table salt if you ingest too much of it.
Also! There is no such thing as "medical grade" boric acid!
Boric Acid is Boric Acid. I get the 100% stuff and make my own.. its easy and costs pennies.. I make a paste of the Boric Acid mixed with ~just enough~ water to get it moist, and pat it into a flat "pancake" on some aluminum foil .. I "score" the pancake with lines so it will break apart easily later, and place that in the freezer. Once it's frozen I break off a piece (or 2) every morning and insert it wayy into my vagina. Vwahlah. I use a pantyliner (or two loll) as it will leak throughout the day, but thats normal. I also will spot blood sometimes, but that is normal as well. What DOESN'T happen is the foul smell, taste, or the sticky, paste-y white discharge that reeks!
The flora in your vagina (for some of us) gets off balanced by things you eat, age, anti-biotics, sex, etc.. although "bacterial vaginosis" connotes an "infection" it is NOT any type of STD per se. There are arguments that a man can pass it to you, or that BV is a side effect of having HPV (vaginal wart virus) but I don't want to go into that here as the focus here is curing it (I havent heard of a permanent "cure" yet, sorry to say) or at the least, keeping the BV at bay.. I also don't want to control my life with a super-diet regimen of being paranoid about having a fried shrimp on a stick or drinking a soda when I want .. I eat well and don't do many high-gluten carbs or processed junk foods, but I do want to be able to drink alcohol (wine tastings!) and imbibe in things in moderation, even though I'm over 50 years old.. so .. after MUCH research, and exhausting decades of having BV, (and doing the Dr/Rx/theres nothing wrong with you Merry-Go-Round) I tried BORIC ACID and BORIC ACID WORKS !
Another thing you can do is to insert pro-biotics as well.. but it takes much longer and the results weren't as immediate. Jarrows has a formula (fem-dop-something..) and it is ~specifically~ created with the Lrheuti and Lrhamoses (yes I mis-spelled those terrribly I'm sure) which are the exact flora in your vagina. Its a bit pricey ($30/bottle) if you insert 2 in your vagina and take 2 orally at the same time, every day, but for some its worth it, so you hav to decide whats best for you..
You can also douche with Hydrogen Peroxide (like 1/4 cup H202 to 1 pint H20) which will take away the smell immediately, but will also make you very dry.. so plan this around a time you don't plan on having sex within a 24 hour period unless you lube up.
A note on douching .. yes! douching will unbalance the flora inside the vagina! Yes you should not douche when your ph is NORMAL.. however, the vagina is 1. a self-cleansing area and 2. not a sterile environment. so, if you're already unbalanced and smelling badly, why not douche as a remedy..?? (hello). If you decide to douche, douche with the H202 if you want immediate relief, but use the boric acid and you should notice results within a day. The biggest thing I notice is that the boric acid sometimes doesn't disolve completely and your partner might notice a bit of a "gritty" feeling upon penetration. But in exchange for the confidence of smelling and tasting great, (for me) its a no-brainer. You can also dissolve the boric acid in some boiling water an douche with that, but inserting it keeps it "inside" longer.
To get Boric Acid to treat the ongoing BV is get a BIG container of "Flea Stoppers" (yes at the pest control place) its $25 for like a huge container of it. I do the above ("pancake" method in alum foil) to get a "tablet" to insert .. I hav never used the gel caps but if that seems like it will work for you, try it. Some get the veggie/gel (size 00) capsules and fill them with Boric Acid and insert 1 or 2 of those instead of the freezing thing like my way. I wanted just boric acid delivered right away and as stated above, it keeps it there to deliver longer exposure to kill kill kill the bacteria. But veggie/gel caps are another way so experiment with what works best.
Lastly, I know how devastating this can be. I experienced it for years. Years and YEARS. I wish someone had told me this same information long ago. I love being a sexual, sensual woman, and this killed a lot of that confidence that goes along with that.. now, I am back and thank gosh for the iNet !
I hope you will post a "like" if this works for you, so that many others who are clue-less (like I was) on this BV thing will find it, and are able to once again be the sexually confident and lovely women they were, and still are.. even through this life-halting challenge.. I truly wish you the love of a lifetime, and the ability to express it in all ways..
Remember even Republicans know how to hav fun..! *grin*

BV is not caused by antibiotics, it is (sometimes only temporarily) cured by antibiotics by eliminating the bad bacteria. Antibiotics often cause thrush. Furthermore, the only parallel with thrush is discharge but BV more often than not it is thin, clear and abundant and can smell like garlic (and fish after sex). Thrush is thick, white/green and has and often a strong yeast smell. BV is NOT sexually transmitted (unlike thrush) and should not itch or sting (50% of BV sufferers are symptomless). Thrush causes immense itching inside and out the vagina and the vulva can often be inflamed - DON'T SCRATCH. I have suffered from these things recurrently for over two years. I have tried every trick in the book - HP douches, vinegar baths, expensive creams, Metranizadole gel and tablets, drinking liquid chlorophyll, taking pre and probiotics, inserting raw garlic, the list goes on). It seems as regards thrush the less you do the better - don't douche, don't wash with ph sensitive stuff etc. Keep downstairs as dry as possible, don't wear tight trousers or leggings and if your knickers get moist change them or don't wear any at all. Same goes for sanitary towels and Tampons which need to be changed often as blood has a the ph of around 7.5 and will trigger these things. The body will rebalance itself - it's clever like that. In response to BV I don't have any answers as, seemingly, many health professionals do not have any definitive answers either - no lie. I can only ascribe the prevalence of BV to modern living. It's shocking how uneducated people are about BV - both the medical world and Joe Public - considering it is the most common vaginal infection/disease. Maybe if there were more publicity there might be more funding and all the poor people on her (me included) might get the right treatment. Here's hoping.

I believe boric acid is available in 600mg capsules. Personally, I have a capsule maker so I make my own boric acid capsules.
