Hi my name is Rhonda and my son was born with one lung in 1985 and now he is 32 years old . He has lived a long normal life other than having really bad asthma. He has went sky diving and flew to Colorado springs this past year and he did just fine, no problems . His whole life we let him be the judge of what his body allowed him to do and never had any major problems. Good luck with your travels !! God bless you

15 year ago i posted also an Message here. My little girl Julia is now 3 years old. She is still on oxygen 24/7 en has an Stellar breathing machine. She has one right lung, and one Pulmonary vein to her heart. But her biggest probleem is her airway stenosis. Without the stenosis she would have Much more quality in life. She has this stenosis through an artery which is pushing her Airtube  The docters here in the Netherlands (Rotterdam), Belgium (Leuven), Engeland (London) and USA (Seattle) who’ve seen the CT and MRI find it to riskfull to operate her for placing an stent (which must be strong enough). Do you, reader of this message, know a specialist / docter which can help us maybe.  If you read this many years later you can always contact me.

What problems can occur when you are 50 or older, if you are having only one lung from the birth?

my grandson was born with one lung also. he is now 14 and doing just fine. he lived in California for the first 5 yrs and was in the hospital every time he got a cold. we moved him to our farm in Indiana and got him in Childrens hospital with a great pulmonologists which put him on Advair and he has not had to use oxygen or albuterol since then. whatever you do make sure they have a good diet and exercise on a regular basis this is the only way to keep them strong. also find a good pulmonologist that understands his issues and gives her breathing test and the correct
meds. good luck and god bless

Hello, my nine month old son was born with only his right lung. His right lung has grown larger in compensation and his heart is pushed to the left. He has monthly check ups with a pulmonologist and will have a yearly echocardiogram to check for pulmonary hypertension. He is doing really well!

. I am so thankful to have found this forum and hear about the inspiring stories of others living with one lung. You all bring me so much hope!

I want my son to live life to the fullest but I am so very afraid for his future.
How do you find a balance between treating your child just like anyone else and letting them live life while also trying to keep them healthy?

Does anyone know of ways to connect since it seems like Yahoo groups have been discontinued and sharing emails on this forum is not allowed?

Thank you!
Rachel
