I too have been diagnosed with this...where does it come from? HOw long does it last? My doc said that if the meds (Levsin) i take help and it is gone forever great! If not, after a couple of weeks i would probably need to have some kind of Upper GI thing.
How have you turned out?

Hi! I have had the same problem for the last 20 days or so. I know what it is, it is a muscle spasm that is self limiting-like you said it is globus hysterica.
I have been checked by my GP and an ENT and nothing was found in my throat, my thyroid gland is ok and the only explanation left is globus hysterica that is aggaravated by stress and anxiety. I have been experiencing headaches, swollen nodes and throat pain because of this and from what I read nothing helps except maybe some antispasmodic medicine, just like the second poster said. I am going to see my doc next week and ask for a medicine. The problem is that we don’t know when it would stop, I had it once before and it went a way after two weeks. This one has been more persistent. The first time I had it, I was really stressed and the second time it occurred when I got rid of the stress.

I started with what doctors also thought was acid reflux. Had over the counter antacids and when that didn't work, started seeing the primary doctor. Went on other prescription antacids and the "lump" feeling remained always. Had barium swallow, ultrasound etc and then let it go for a while because stress was also suggested. The source of the stress was then gone but problem persisted. Finally went back to doctor and they did an endoscopy and found nothing. Also had the Bravo test (place a capsule in esophagus during endoscopy and wear a monitor for two days to test for pH (acid reflux)). Waiting for results tomorrow but I am pretty sure they won't find that is the problem. At this point, I am hoping it is though and that a long and stronger course of antacids will help. But "globus" is the suggested diagnosis. I guess at this point, I am just glad that I don't have something seriously wrong
