I too have this big lump on my gum and I've had it since February 2009 (???). 2 Dentists have looked at it already. The first dentist said it was nothing. The lump doesn't hurt, but only when touched or poked. At the same time I was having pain on a tooth underneath that lump. Turns out I needed a root canal. So the 2nd dentist did the root canal and said the lump should go away. After 3 months, the pain on the tooth that had the root canal was still there, and so was the lump. I was referred to go see an oral surgeon who later said the tooth that had the root canal was not completed - still there was another root to be done. All this he saw from a 3D xray. Last week I had a 2nd root canal done on the same tooth by the same 2nd dentist. The root was extraordinarily long/deep and the dentist thought that was what was causing the pain & lump. It's been a little over a week now and the lump on my gum is still as big as it was 4 months ago. When it's poked or touched, it still is the same pain. I really don't know what this lump or cyst is. I can't keep going to the dentist only for them to be doing guessworks.

I seem to have similar symptoms to what is being described. I noticed a few months ago that one side of my face was swollen looking but not bad. Not even really noticeable except for people who seen me alot. I put no mind to it at the time. Then a couple months later I noticed it again. I googled it and seem to me at the time that it was due to my wisdom tooth that I realized was partically impacted. I have NO tooth pain so that pretty much cuts out a abscess. It is a little sensitive to touch and I can feel a little bit of pressure kinda like I got a small dip in my mouth or something. At this point I made a dentist appointment. Got an examination and x rays. Dentist said that he don't see nothin that stuck out in the x-rays. Naturally he told me my impacted wisdom teeth need to come out and he said it don't look like an abscess and that it just looks like inflammation. He even said that removing the tooth would probably be the solution. Ok not to bad. Well later that day I felt more pressure and seem to be inflammating more. The next morning I was in the mirror looking at it. I noticed 2 little dots looked like an pimple or an ant bite head. I softly applied some pressure just examining it and to my surprise it popped. A small amount of pus came out and some blood. At this point I'm thinking it must be an abscess right. So I started googling again and called the dentist I went to the day before. They are telling me it ain't no abscess as they are looking at the x rays. and that it could be a blister which I don't see how when pus and blood come out. They also said that if it was an abscess I would know due to the tooth pain, which I have none. I am still googling it but what people are saying in here relates more closely. My teeth are in good health and I don't know what is causing the inflammation. My one suspect is that impacted wisdom, but the swelling is under the second molar???

Is there any connection here? Like, does anyone here smoke heavily or drink a lot of caffine or something? I do, and I have a cyst like lump on my lower right gum, and it scares me a little, although my family has no history of cancer, and it just suddenly appeared...its weird. My grandma told me its a gum boil, dont know what that is, and I dont have any money to go to a dentist or doctor or have insurance for that matter, dont really know what Im going to do about it. Kind of hoping its going to start talking and telling me to do mischievious things, and maybe somehow start spewing money, but, I dont think those hopes are well founded.

Well, I havent noticed any bumps in my mouth but my gums are very tender and the oral surgeon (who has to pull my eye teeth down because I'm a 14-year-old weirdo and they havent grown in yet) says I have cysts. Whatever the hell they are. I didnt even know they're there, and now we have to pay like 600 bucks for surgery on that plus 500 for the other surgery.

Anyway someone wanna enlighten me as to why I gotta spend money on this insted of the new Pokemon or Final Fantasy?! It really pisses me off >.>

Hello to everyone in this forum, several months ago i had developed what looked like a smal cyst on the lower right side of my mouth.I had just had all my upper teeth pulled ou and 2 on the bottom right about where that cyat like thing developed.
I just brushed carefuly for the next few months and did'nt give it much attension outher than to say a prayer and i am happy to report that it's gone.
So what was it, the only thing i can figure out is it was an infection, makes sence i went to the Oral surgen with an infection and was'nt given enough antibiotics to get rid of it all.

I notice someone mentioned cysts under their arm...i had some cysts years ago under arm and one on my face just to the right of my nose, i had the one by my nose lanced and took antibiotics for the under arm one.
Now that i'm about 40 years older i have several more bumps and lumps.....i call them fatty tumours...they dont bother me and i dont bother them.....i was told this by an old time Doctor and it's true dont bother them and they wont bother you :)
Allso a Gentelman wanted to know if anyone used tobacco and or drank coffee...I do and have for decades, "Praise GOD"
I hope this posts helps to calm someones FEAR

Hi, have you figured out what the problem was?

I have the same problem (swelling under the 2nd molar) but I've felt pain for about a month now. I've gone to the dentist and he pulled out the wisdom tooth on my lower-right (horizontally impacted) and opened up my gum for my lower-left wisdom tooth (vertically impacted). Since the vertically impacted tooth has room to grow now, I didn't think I'd have any problems. Now the gum under my 2nd molar (lower-left side) is swollen. It usually hurts upon contact and is really annoying because it feels like there's a tiny ball inside my left cheek. Yesterday, the bump was a bit firm but it's softer today.

My Mom said that she had the same problem before and her dentist told her that it was nothing. Her dentist prescribed her with amoxicillin and that took away the pain, but the bump was still there. She told me it disappeared eventually.

After reading all your posts, I think my pain/bump is caused by abscess. My question is -- has anyone managed to "treat" this? Do I need to drain it out, or will this cause more problems?

I had one in the upper right roof of my mouth about 3 months ago and then it went away. It was not painful but annoying and I thought I burnt the top of my mouth with pizza after drinking. It came back two weeks ago and I went to the dentist who told me I needed a root canal. I had been taking antibiotics but it did not go away.I had the root canal done yesterday and was sent to an oral surgeeon. The oral surgeon told me I had a cyst from the infection and it had to be drained. He cut into my gum and drained it out. I hope this fixes it otherwise they said I would have to have the tooth pulled. The oral surgeon said that because it is a front tooth I have a 98% chance of everything being okay.

I just discovered one of these little blighters as the guest has perfectly described, top left hand side of my mouth.  I also had extensive work done on my teeth after loosing a lot I got a very quick job done in Budapest.  As its 28 times more expensive in Ireland, (where I hail from).  Yes I am a smoker, coffee drinker, drinker, all the bad stuff, but am very fussy about my oral hygiene.  I believe its one of two things, a bad root canal job, or a cyst.  None of us have mentioned the C word, because we are all terrified but I have every intention of telling everyone on this forum if it is so. I am petrified and have to find out what the hell this is.  Pray for me people I am finding out next week, Watch this space...

Please do. I just now was eating some cole slaw, and it almost felt like maybe a very sharp slice of carrot actually got in between the incisions where I had a tooth removed before... but maybe it just hurt cause it stabbed into that area... but I never noticed this big lump before in the lower right part of my mouth on the gum infront of where the molar used to be. I got this thing extracted YEARS ago, but maybe they didn't stitch it as well as they could have.

Apparently my theory was right and I somehow stabbed a crisp carrot splinter into my gum, or I just hit it in the right way. It is mostly healed now. Nothing showed up in the x-rays, but dental x-rays aren't tuned to find stuff like that anyways.

Now the bump is more like a long thin protrusion (kinda the shape of that piece of carrot I theorized got jammed into my gum).

This past year I recently had the same problem with the bump that has been described in these replies. I did a lot of searching/ research, and discovered I had a MUCOCELE. To anyone who still needs help, I highly recommend looking up pictures, causes, symptoms of mucoceles to see if it fits with what is afflicting you. Good luck.
