I am a 23 year old male and I have this same issue, within a min or two of my first sip of alchohal my penis begins to burn. I've looked into this many times and the only answer I got that was believeable was that I have an enlarged prostate or bladder. Because not only do I have this symptom but also when I drink a few glasses of water I need to pee ASAP! I dont have STDS because I checked and came back clean which is what i thought was happening at first. But i havent yet been diagnosed with an enlarged prostate... this sucks

I have the same problem! Could it be an allergy? I have no idea. But it just takes a few sips and a few minutes for it to take effect. It's so weird!

41 male and right there with ya. Started this year and it I get the sensation within one minute of the first sip, seems primarily with beer, but I have felt it with wine, etc.
Have not seen a doctor yet, but will. If I had to pick one thing, I would say it is something to do with the bladder. The sensation always has me going to the bathroom and urinating.

Have any of you ever had Kidney Stones? Just wondering because I get that burning too with just a sip of alcohol or even if i take Nyqil... It started about 6 months ago and I just had my first kidney stone pass... not fun I tell you... Wonder if it could be related somehow?

Hello everyone, you are not alone. I suffer the same thing. Alcohol gives me very painful burning urination. Doctors have told me that I have interstitial cystitis. Alcohol is very acidic and it irritates the lining of the bladder. They told me to take an anti-acid when I want to drink alcohol, to reduce the burning sensation. I don't think there is a cure for this. Elmiron might help or Only to stay away of the things that cause these symptoms Good luck to you all.

Hello, I know this an old thread but it is still pretty much the only thing on google that refers to my exact problem. I have had this problem for to long to remember. Just now I had a shot of Sambuca and litterally within about 120 seconds, I get the burn/tingling sensation at the tip of my penis. Today it has only last around 10 mins but previously it has lasted much longer. I have tried many different things to try and get rid of it ranging from masturbation and sex to pinching and rinsing with water... nothing gets rid of it. My GP has no idea and as someone posted previously, my GP couldnt quite understand how a reaction would happen so quickly.
My own theory on the matter. The penis is an 'end of the line' organ so blood can typically stay here for a little bit longer than other places in the body. This is the same with your finger tips and toes. My only theory is, is that the alcohol travels to this area in the blood and ends up lingering for a while before it is moved on and around the system. I know i have a slightly faster than average resting heart beat and ever so slightly higher than normal blood preasure so this could explain why it happens to me and not others.. Please reply if you suffer from the same conditions. I know it isnt always too clever to draw your own conclusions to a matter but i feel mine is pretty harmless and will not effect peoples methods of trying to get this problem sussed and resolved.

The only thing that helps me is to take my time with my first drink. Take sips periodically for 30 - 60 mins and use something with a lower alcohol content. I have noticed wine works best for me currently. I haven't found a doctor that is familiar with this at all and continue to get strange looks whenever trying to describe the experience.

24 year old male, my problem is similar except that it is my rectum that has a warm to burning sensation. It starts within seconds of my first sip of alcohol and can last from literally under a minute to all night. I don't what triggers it. It has burned for hours off of one beer but just the other night I had 3 irish car bombs and it only burned for a few seconds after the first. The alcohol could enter the blood stream and reach the locations in our bodies that are affected that quickly. I am thinking it may be some sort of referred pain from an allergic reaction or something we have conditioned ourselves to feel, though I don't know how.

Amazing that this thread is over 2 years old and still no one has an answer!!! I am 43 and this all started for me about a year and half ago. It has never gotten worse or better. Within 2-5 minutes after taking my first drink of any form of alcohol I get a very painful burning sensation in the tip of my penis. Most of the time I will also feel like I need to defecate. I will go to the bathroom, sit on the toilet and to defecate and uriniate. About half the time I don't defecate and usually do have some urine, however just making the effort provides very temporary relief for just them moment you are urinating and attempting to defecate. Once that is over the feeling immediately returns. The urine is not cloudy or unusual. Typically within 20 minutes or so the feeling has subsided and I am fine for the rest of the evening. I had never had this problem prior to about a year and half ago.
I thought maybe I had an STD so I went to a clinic and they thought I had one too. So they gave me a shot of antibiotic and did a complete battery of tests. All the tests turned out negative. Since then I have taken Zithromyacin "Zpack" for bronchitis. Neither of these treatments have affected my symptoms. The only thing that appears to help in my situation is if I take toilet paper and dry the inside of the end of my penis tip it seems to provide a bit of relief. Not sure why that is.
Several months ago I went to a urologist who is 64 years old and he checked my urine and did a physical exam. He was baffled by my symptoms. He said he had never heard of anything like it. He said my symptoms didn't make any sense for any of the conditions he is aware of. He said he would mention it to some of his colleagues and let me know if he found out anything. I haven't heard anything back from him.
Of course the obvious suggestion is just not to drink any more alcohol but that isn't possible! lol. Ironically when this started happening I hadn't been drinking very regularly. Several years ago I used to drink a lot more than I drink now. Currently I drink wine or beer, most often beer, about 1-3x per week and typically not more than a couple glasses of wine or 3-6 beers. However I have gone 2 weeks without drinking anything and this sensation will happen just like it always has. No better or worse.

I am so relieved to find other people with the same problem. I don't think my doctor believes me and i was begging to think i was crazy. I have been looking on the internet for almost a year now. like someone above said just one sip of alcohol and the pain starts immediately. I dont think its an allergy because i used to drink more than i do now. I have changed my doctor and she is testing me for cancer and diabetes among other things less serious, well at least she believes me and after reading these comments i now know that i am not crazy. lets hope that somebody finds out something soon!!!

I have the same problem as everyone above. However, sometimes if i have sex after drinking alcohol, I get extreme burning sensation. Checked with the doctor and i came back clean with no answers as to why this happens.

To better understand the absorption of a drug and its distribution like ethanol(the alcohol we drink) we were given in school an example of a study in which a special chemical compound that causes a bitter taste in the mouth was injected into the butt of participants. From the time the subjects received the injection to the time they tasted it in their mouths was on the order of a few seconds or less. Fascinating =)

The primary (M)etabolism and (E)xcretion of ethanol(alcohol) occurs over a longer period through the Alcohol Dehydrogenase pathway and gives rise to the "your body can clear one drink per hour" philosophy some people have before driving on a night out.
Finally, some drugs must undergo the longer (M)etabolism phase before they actually become active in the body, recirculated and cause an effect. Other drugs like ethanol(alcohol) in this case may be active immediately, (A)bsorbed and (D)istrubuted causing the effect as quickly as we have all described. Whether or not alcohol is doing this within the minute or two before it is getting metabolized by Alcohol Dehydrogenase as I think is the case or whether we are experiencing a side-effect of one of ethanols metabolites ( the breakdown after metabolism) I have not been able to verify.
To the gentleman or woman regarding cancer or bladder cancer, while I would never wish to mislead you and say you're wrong and see someone end up with undiagnosed cancer because of it, there was a study in 1982-1983 that showed no correlation with alcohol consumption and bladder cancer. Google Scholar: "Bladder Cancer and Alcoholic Beverage Consumption" to read more. That being said a more recent 1999 study Google Scholar: "Alcohol Consumption and Bladder Cancer Risk: Results from the Netherlands Cohort Study" found there may be an association with the quantity of alcohol you drink and bladder cancer, for our purposes and the 2 minutes it takes most of us to experience this effect I don't believe this is relevant.
This will be more gnitty-gritty scientific so I apologize: A more relevant and interesting study (in Rats) found that ethanol actually caused bladder capacity and residual urine volume to increase while causing voiding pressure to decrease. That means that the ethanol actually caused the bladder to hold more fluid and decreased its ability to push the fluid out. The fascinating part of this was that the effect stopped after the ethanol was washed away from the Rat bladders. This indicates to me that ethanol as an "active" drug I mentioned earlier would cause the effect we feel in 1 to 2 minutes rather than 1/2 hour or longer. I know this isn't the straight forward answer we all hoped for and after observing the two years of answer-less posts the research has to start somewhere. If we're lucky some M.D. or Ph. D.. of Nephrology or his drinking college student will stumble on this thread and let us know they've been working on it for years ^_^.

Just to say, I also have this problem and after a few sips of wine this evening, I had the very annoying onset of cystitus symptoms. I have read an article on the internet that says if you were prone to cystitus in the past, then it is very difficult to irradicate the bacteria that caused the problem in the first place... I am going to look up alternative therapies for cystitus, even though I don't have it, I think the damage has been done and there may be some natural way to treat it.
