I have the same problem . It is an allergy to sulfates most commonly found in wine. It makes my arm and leg muscles burn too. But more uncomfortable is the anus burning. Or that's what it feels like to me. All you have to do is look for wines that are sulfate free. it is not a reaction to the alcohol. Just the sulfate most alcoholic beverages contain

I am a 30 year old female and decided to google this for answers because, I too have experienced this since I began drinking alcohol. Likeanother's described, within minutes I feel this tingling/(light) burning sensation with the first drink. The sensation is accompanied with the urge to urinate and I usually have to, even if I did not feel the urge prior to the drink or if I'be already have prior to. I'm hoping also to find information so that I can rest in knowing that it is not a major health issue.

Your description after consuming alcohol sounds like I could have written it. It is the same for me. I, however, have been drinking wine for years, symptom free. I've tried to put my finger on this and what is different in my life. I had several bouts of bladder infections for the past year, with antibiotics. Also, I was having sinus infections in between, and also taking antibiotics. Any correlation? Dunno. It was thought that I may have an over active bladder. I know this is not true. I can hold my urine. The urge to go sometimes will hit me like 'out of no where'... and even if I have just urinated. Sitting in the car within minutes I sometimes have the urge. But if I cannot go at the time, I can hold it and sometimes the urge goes away. But the consuming wine and within 2 minutes it 'wham bam' hits the bladder is very, very depressing. My doctor says wine does not travel that fast to the bladder. Ok. Then what the heck is it then? I have had a sonogram on the bladder...it's fine. I have an appt with a urologist soon. Until the appt. my doctor has me drinking a mixture of potassium citrate in water. Seems to be working?? I think. I test it out, here and there with a glass of wine and the burn is not as severe but it's within minutes of the first sip still. If I continue drinking the wine, the burn/sensation will go away. Totally. I know someone who has interstitial cystitis and after describing my symptoms, pain, etc to her says it is not what I have. Dunno. But I just cannot believe that all of you people have written the same thing...some going back several years, - and no one, - - no one- has a diagnosis of the problem. I will be back... hopefully with some kind of answer....
'to be continued'......

Finally I seem to have found SOME lead as to what is going on with me... it is similar for me... Been having a problem like that for the past year, but too many things have changed in my life at once to actually know what caused it. I went to see a urologist, she said I have a urinary tract infection and stuffed me with antibiotics... didn't help, next visit she upped the power and dosage... so I had to stop drinking for a while. Magically it helped... and I emjoyed not drinking and spending too much money on alco so much that I didn't even have a beer for a month or so. No symptoms. Happy life... and then I had a drink... and again all hell broke loose.
In my case apart from the burning I also get some nasty white-yellow (and tonight even bright orange) discharge (I'm pretty sure its not an STD, but should get myself checked out as well). It doesn't happen immediatelly after drinking, needs a few hours. Also I don't have the problem with having to go peepee often, more like the oposite, I need to spend good 5 minutes praying to the gods of weewee to actually be able to empty my bladder... Next visit with the urologist is in 2 weeks, I'll try to get to see an allergologist as well and we'll see what happens.
Joining you all in pain. SSDB

Wow, I am glad I found this thread! I thought I was the only one with this problem! I, like others, had googled it many times and could find nothing about it. If I take one drop of alcohol, I get instant severe vaginal burning! So, I unfortunately don't drink alcohol. However, I really would like to drink it now and then and on special occasions! I noticed the same effect when I took an antibiotic too! Within 15minutes, had severe vaginal burning! There are a couple of foods I stay away from too due to the same effect. I think possibly with foods it is from citric acid. I really don't understand why it happens with the alcohol! It is literally within seconds of one drop! I will try the calcium citrate or an antacid that others suggested. There is some inflammatory connection I believe. Well, it is nice to know though that I am not the only one!!

I also have this problem been I've tested for all STI's and have been given the all clear.
I find that drinking a few pints of water about half an hour or an hour before sex helps a lot, also recently found out could poss be a zinc deficiency so I've started taking a zinc supplement once a day and so far the problem has stopped.

I have the same things going on.
As a kid. I talking 14 years old and on I would have UTI's I cant count how many times I was perscribed antibiotics. Too many, on top of that some of the antibiotics would cause me to have yeast infections. Also after being perscribed antibiotics for strep throat.
(I don't know if this has anything to do with it. Or the cause of 'IC' anyone on here please respond if you have taken a lot of antibiotics through your lifetime.)
I had the gardasil (HPV)shot. All three of them. When I was 22. I am now 24 and have been diagnosed with HPV.
The reason I am on here is because I took a sip of wine. On an empty stomach an had the whole burning urination. And as well as the burning sensation even after peeing. I thought ot was because of being dehydrated. This happened earlier in the month same situation. Was drinking alcohol and the next day it started to burn .
I also have gall bladder problems. Does anyone else have this ?

I have the exact same problem as the original poster. I'm a 24-year-old female. I do not ever consume Mountain Dew. So, Mountain Dew certainly isn't the cause.

I am a 28 year old Female and I have the same issue. In fact, I currently have a cold and dread every time I have to take NyQuil, because I get the same reaction. I rarely have any soda and do not like coffee, but I do like to drink green tea when i can (home brewed, hot). I wonder if it has to do with the breakdown of sugars or a bacterial issue? I have had a history of UTIs (2-3 a year), but have been able to clear them up myself with plenty of water and lots of cranberry juice. I also have a low tolerance for dairy. I can drink milk and eat ice cream, but if I don't limit my consumption I will likely vomit and have stomach issues. My body also seems to display immune system problems, such a skin issues in different places, I easily get sick with colds and the like, ect. Blood tests have been normal (except i was low on D, which I have remedied), as well as pap smears and urine tests. I'm sure it's likely a metabolic or some other issue somewhere down the line, but shouldn't be a health concern as long as everything remains stable. I hope that one day this can be diagnosed so that so many people can know what the issue is, and maybe even fix it.

26 year old male and the issues started about 3 months ago. Specifically, the issues I've experienced are:
1. ) Burning and urgent sensation within a few minutes after drinking any amount of alcohol that goes away after about 20 - 30 minutes, regarless of using the restroom
2. ) Urgent and frequent urination (10 - 15 times a day), regardless of alcohol consumption
3. ) Sometime uncontrollable dribbling after urinating
4. ) Irregular bowel issues, but these may be unrelated
Here's what we know:
1. ) No UTI or STD has been detected
2. ) Urinalysis and blood analysis mostly normal. Proteins and ketones were found in the urinalysis.
3. ) CT scan did not reveal any masses
4. ) My PCP prescribed Doxycycline (antibiotic for chlamydia) was prescribed initially and it helped some, but the issues came right back
5. ) My urologist prescribed Levofloxacin (antibiotic for enlarged prostate) which damn near resolved everything in the first few days, but after about 5 days all the symptoms came back in full force
6. ) Ultrasound of the bladder showed that I was able to fully empty the bladder, regardless if I thought I had not emptied the bladder
After reading the thread today, I feel that trying to cut out caffeine may be the best option for troubleshooting. Specifically, today I did not touch any alcohol, but had frequent and urgent urination throughout the evening. However, I consume a lot of Diet Pepsi today, which strangely enough, I started drinking Diet Pepsi about 3 months ago. I plan to cut all caffeine from my diet and see what happens. Thus, I should be posting back to this thread within a few days with my findings.
It goes without saying that my findings will correspond with my symptoms, so please make sure your symptoms are fairly close.
