I like to swim very much. I want to be a good swimmer. I am willing to train hard and stick to the plan. I also like to drink a few glasses of wine and whisky. I don’t think that it is a big deal but my friend who is a coach says that I should quit drinking completely if I want to get some results out of my training. Is he right?

Absolutely. Alcohol and swimming have nothing in common. If you want to become a serious athlete you should forget about drinking anything stronger than club soda. Even the smallest amounts of alcohol get in the way of recovery and can hinder all your efforts to become faster. Even if you don’t want to compete you should consider not drinking at all at least for the health reasons.
